We cordially invite you to Austin’s newest art gallery/salon.

For the past year, Lydia has transformed itself into an intimate salon setting. Of course, the emphasis is still on
ART.
However, what we wanted to change is how you experience the art. In the redesign, we are fully embracing the concept of the slow art movement. What does this mean for you as a visitor or member? We aim to immerse you in a changing format of carefully curated experiences throughout the year. We want you to come on in and hang out. Take advantage of our new visitor/member amenities.

Meet new people. Make new connections. See new things.

We’re open 6-10 Friday evening. Join us for a Solaris (Andrei Tarkovsky, 1972) watch party-film begins at 7 pm. Solaris is a famous film from the Russian filmmaker, Tarkovsky. It is a story of how the mind & the spirit operate. The protaganist is a cosmonaut sent on a special mission to investigate strange happenings on a space station orbiting a peculiar planet. Slowly but surely the viewer realizes the planet is a living organism that effects the psyche of anyone that comes within close proximity.
The mind & the spirit are incredible things. They can be reshaped and reorganized at will. The film shows us an example of what can occur and be created when the mind and the spirit are truly set free in the sea of imagination. In some form or another, the artists presented in our current exhibition, exhibit this kind of free spirit.
The film presents ideas around what it means to be alive, what is life, what is real and what is not. The key questions that arise - what does it mean to have an identity? a personality? What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be many? And ultimately, what does it mean to be one? Lydia Street Gallery is still in process of our rebrand to Lydia Art Salon. Thank you for your patience!

Join Cecelia Schoening of .lab for a Global movement - Slow Art Day as she guides participants through an artful observation & transformation with five pieces from the current exhibition, “Two Faced. Three Faced. Four Faced. Five.” Each of the artists in this exhibition want the viewer to slow down, & Lydia Art Salon wants its visitors to slow down, so this could be the perfect combination! Cecelia facilitates research, dialogue & regenerative transformation. AIR stands for Artist in Residence & their unique framework: aesthetic, interdisciplinary, regenerative. She studied Cognitive Science & Art History at Yale & maintains an art practice rooted in field research & contemplation of the living world. RSVP on Luma @ http://luma.com/1yxvbiij
