Jazz in the Garden🎷🎹⚡
On August 28, 1969, 55 years ago today, a live performance featuring four Moog modular synthesizers filled the MoMA The Museum of Modern Art's Sculpture Garden in New York City.
This live concert featured a Moog quartet composed of Herb Deutsch, Hank Jones, Artie Doolittle, and Jim Pirone. Chris Swansen was also featured with his quartet. Roughly 4,000 people attended the groundbreaking performance, now viewed as an important event in the development of electronic music.
You can learn more about the performance at the Moogseum. A reel-to-reel tape of the performance is on display as part of our Patching Sound exhibit, which provides a deep dive into modular synthesis. Tickets are available at the link in the comments.
