IGCA - International Gallery of Contemporary Art The IGCA is an exhibition space dedicated to new works in visual and interdisciplinary arts. IGCA is a non-profit art space in Anchorage Alaska.

Come by the gallery this week to see Rarefied Light, the Alaska Photographic Center’s annual juried exhibition of fine art photography.

𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝗪𝗶𝗲𝗿

Nevada Wier is a multiple award-winning photographer specializing in documenting the remote corners of the world and the cultures that inhabit them. She is recognized for her creative and intimate approach to people, as well as her intriguing infrared images. She has been published in numerous national and international publications, including: National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure, Geo, Islands, NY Times Magazine, Outside, and Smithsonian. Nevada’s work is represented by National Geographic Images and Getty. She is a Fellow of The Explorer’s Club and a member of the Women’s Geographic Society.

Nevada is the juror for this year's Rarefied Light exhibition, on view in the IGCA North and Center Galleries this month.

𝗥𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 | 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗮 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿

The Alaska Photographic Center (APC) is a statewide organization formed in 1983, with a mission to promote fine art photography in Alaska. Each year APC seeks out a nationally recognized artist to jury the Rarefied Light show and present a public lecture and workshop. Rarefied Light is Alaska’s largest annual fine art photography exhibition. This year they received 488 entries by 65 Alaska artists.

Guest juror Nevada Wier, Santa Fe, selected 50 photographs by 33 artists for inclusion in this year’s exhibition.

Join us on Thursday 9/24 for a closing reception for our September exhibitions. Artists Ted Kincaid and Linda Lucky will be there for short talks, and we will have some delicious refreshments!

Doors open at 5:30 / talk at 6:00

We are also open Thursday and Friday from 1-4 PM. Elise Rose will be there volunteering on Thursday and Linda Lucky will be there for the last day of the exhibitions on Friday!

Don't miss David Pettibone's exhibit Figurescape, which includes beauties like this oil painting, Segmented Seasons. Just about what it feels and looks like in Anchorage right now as we transition into autumn.

Stop by on Sunday 9/13 1-4 PM to visit with North Gallery artist Ted Kincaid who will be gallery sitting!

The Rebirth of Shipwreck is Kincaid’s first photography show. Though typically an event photographer, he leans into those familiar compositions as he explores his own recent trauma expressed with toys. By using action figures as the characters, Kincaid blends the weight of betrayal with the childish wonder, imagination and protection of a little boy’s bedroom. Nearly every scene is a hand diorama to help bring life into the narration of the healing journey.

As we move into the dark time of year, you are invited to submit works for inclusion in Cold Cuts, a curated group exhibition of winter collages that will be on view at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in Anchorage, Alaska in February 2027.

Theme: Winter. We are looking for your interpretations. What does this season mean to you? Do you love it? Dread it? What colors, textures, feelings do you associate with winter? What imagery?

This exhibit is open to anyone, anywhere, and all analog collage methods will be considered. Artists can submit up to 3 collages for consideration. Submissions will be curated by Owen Tucker and Karinna Gomez.

Submission deadline is Friday, December 11, 2026, and artists will be notified of whether their work is accepted for inclusion in the exhibit by Friday, January 1, 2027. Artworks will then need to be delivered to the gallery by Friday, January 29, 2027.

This show S*X came about as my having an itch to create another art show at the IGCA and make it as playful as possible. I chose a controversial subject that asks the question what is sexy to you?

Life is very serious and as we age we need to play more. So get your sexy on and come down to the International to see this whimsical and lovingly prepared fun art show.
