Presidents' Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February; Presidents' Day 2020 occurs on Monday, February 17. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents' Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents' Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

Hi Muzeo Community - The Japan Film Festival Los Angeles will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary, THE ITO SISTERS, on Saturday, August 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple in Costa Mesa. The film explores the early Japanese American experience and draws parallels between the Anti-Japanese Movement in the first half of the 20th century and today's anti-immigrant political culture. Given your important upcoming "I Am an American" exhibit, this screening event may be of interest to your community. Thank you for sharing these details!
See this before it closes July 14!
