We have learned that burlesque legend Tai Ping passed away in her sleep yesterday (Oct 1, 2026) at the age of 88.

Also known as, "Wisdom of the East and Wiggle of the West," Tai Ping was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She started dance lessons at an early age, studying ballet, tap, Cuban, Latin, and Afro-dance styles. In 1960, Tai Ping took a gig as a feature dancer in Key West, where she described herself as a “ballerina that fell into burlesque.” She performed at famous clubs including The Follies Theater, Forbidden City, and Club Pigalle. After retirement, she earned a degree in psychology. She enjoys painting in both watercolors and acrylic. After retiring from burlesque, Tai Ping earned a degree in sociology in 1977 and became a respected community leader in West Hollywood. She also became an accomplished watercolor artist. She was a frequent and beloved guest at the BHoF Weekender over the past two decades, and was awarded BHoF’s Living Legend of the Year in 2013 for her contribution to the art form.

Check out the obituary in the West Hollywood Times to learn more about her: https://hollywoodtimes.net/honoring-tai-ping-gregorich-west-hollywoods-shining-star-tajes-her-final-curtain-call/
