The Burlesque Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the living legacy of st******se and burlesque as an artform and cultural phenomenon. With a collection of several thousand costumes, stage props, photographs, and personal effects documenting the careers and lives of burlesque dancers, comics, and producers over nearly a century, BHoF is a growing testament to the power and social impact of the

art of the tease. Check out our classes, quarterly show "TEASE: A Burlesque R***e", and the world-famous "Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender" held every June.

Our 2025 Miss Exotic World, Jessabelle Thunder, is featured in Essence magazine! Lots of great stuff like this: "St******se is part of the industry, but burlesque is still a political act: a stage routine where shame and guilt around the body get debunked in real time."

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO THE LEGENDARY, ONE AND ONLY, DIXIE EVANS

Today would have been the 100th biirthday of “the Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque”, Dixie Evans. After her father’s death when she was 7, Dixie was raised during the Great Depression by her single mother and worked numerous jobs during her teen years. She dreamed of becoming a Hollywood star, though, and was soon performing with travelling shows and circuses, until meeting manager/producer Lillian Hunt and designer Gussie Gross in San Francisco and launching a career in burlesque.

Dixie performed throughout the 1950s and ‘60s, then retired from show business (for a while...) to manage a hotel in Bimini — where she promptly began producing a big show! Decades later, she came out of retirement again, this time carrying on on the work of her friend and fellow performer Jennie Lee. Jennie had created a museum of burlesque in the Mojave Desert called Exotic World, but she passed away in 1990. Dixie had come to Exotic World to care for Jennie in her illness, but stayed on to run the museum. In 1991, she launched the Miss Exotic World pageant, a burlesque competition intended to draw audiences out to the museum. Soon, Miss Exotic World became a pilgrimage site for the growing neo-burlesque movement, a place where the new generation of performers could learn about burlesque from the women who created it.

Dixie’s legacy continues in today’s Burlesque Hall of Fame, where her and Jennie’s collection continue to provide insight into burlesque’s history, and where the Miss Exotic World Pageant, now expanded into the 4-day Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender, continues to draw performers, producers, burlesque fans, and burlesque’s Legends every year. Dixie passed away in 2013, but her work continues to inspire performers around the world, and it is because of her that so much of its history is remembered.

Meet La Cholita, one of this year’s Sassy Lassy recipients! La Cholita has become an icon as one of the earliest and most visible Latina performers in burlesque, paving the way for a generation of performers after her.

Natasha ‘La Cholita’ Estrada, "The Latina Queen of Burlesque" burst onto the scene with bold statement acts centering her Mexican American heritage by incorporating mariachi music, traditional folklorico, Dia De Mu***os, and danza azteca-inspired pieces as well as reflections of the Chicana experience in LA including tributes to her Pachuco grandfather, and labor workers.

Beyond performance, La Cholita is a dedicated advocate for immigrant communities across all backgrounds, with intersectional justice work that includes workers’ rights, womens' rights and community empowerment. Her impact is both artistic and activist. Viva La Cholita!

(Mistress Joyen was the recipient of the 2026 BHoF BIPOC Scholarship, designed to assist selected applicants to attend the BHoF Weekender who would otherwise be unable to afford the trip. Joyen has graciously shared some of their experiences with us to post on our website.)

"From the Philippines to the world stage, my evolution has begun. For years, the Burlesque Hall of Fame felt like a distant dream—until I claimed the BIPOC Scholarship with my raw, unfiltered story.

Las Vegas was a whirlwind where I found my tribe, bonded with Hawaiian legend Ka'ena, and witnessed the fierce warriors of tease who fought for this sparkling sanctuary. BHoF is the absolute pinnacle, and I am no longer just a spectator. If I am going to make my mark on that sacred stage, I will not do it quietly.

Just watch me. The world will kneel. "
