Honored to be a finalist in the Zenith Awards hosted by the Akron Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau earlier this month. We were up for Best In Class: Hottest Hidden Gem.

In our first year we have hosted visitors from 12 different states and Japan. If you plan to make the trip to see us, reach out directly —we are happy to help with places to eat, shop, and stay!

If you have visited Killer Video, then you have seen the amazing collection of mini ad sheets that we have in our promo/advertising section. These are what theaters used to advertise the movie showtimes in the newspapers. They would choose the ad they wanted and then cut it out and send to the newspaper, who would then use it to create their printing plate.

We were lucky to have been notified of this amazing time capsule of thousands of newspapers from 1985 through the early nineties by our friend Chris Brown that will allow us to display the actual ads that were created by the sheets.

I have been transporting and sorting them one dirty carload at a time. Made it through about half of them and let me just say the process has been such a nostalgic dopamine hit.

We are saving, digitizing and preserving a lot more than just horror, here are some of the awesome ads we have found so far.

Special thanks to my buddies Twan and Matt for the help. (If you see the giant beam spray painted “watch” in the picture with Twan, all of us have done a good job of busting our noggins on it, Matt even drew blood!).

📼 URGENT: WATCH THIS TAPE! 📼

If you were lurking in chat rooms, message boards, or video rental shops back in early 2005, you might remember the absolute panic and hype surrounding the release of The Ring Two. To build viral buzz, DreamWorks did something legendary—they dropped these ultra-creepy, unlabeled guerilla marketing VHS tapes into the wild.

We just added three variants of these incredibly rare promotional tapes to the permanent archive at Killer Video!

Each tape features a frantic, handwritten note rubber-banded to the front, complete with abstract, disturbing illustrations and a URL directing victims to the now-defunct website www.she-is-here.com. The tapes contain a unique 75 second long cursed video that ends on the website url.

It’s the ultimate example of mid-2000s analog marketing bridging the gap into the early digital age.

Did anyone manage to stumble across one of these back in '05? Or did you dare visit the website before it went dark? Drop your memories in the comments below!

All you need to do is read the comments to see the impact that this show had on the community. A real deal show put on by true fans for the fans. We were lucky to attend the last few years and have made many good friends as well. It’s a real bummer to see it come to an end. Thank you Ken and Pam for such an awesome run that brought so much happiness to so many people.

Fotomat drive-thru movie rentals were wild! It lasted from 1979 until 1982. You would look through their catalog and find the movie you wanted, then call a 1-800 number to order the movie. It would be available the next day for pickup at their little hut that lived in the parking lot of malls and other stores. It was $12 for a 5-day rental, that’s equal to $40-$50 today! We were lucky to find one of these pieces of video rental history to add to the museum, and how cool to find Jaws 2.

Hoppin’ Frog has been one the biggest supporters of Killer Video. It was a serendipitous meeting that was facilitated by Zach Ward, and the rest is history. They are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year and we are proud to be aligned with them. Congratulations to Fred, Zach, Will and the rest of the team. Humbled to share the front page with them.

Jason Goes To Hell 3-D Hanging Mobile. This awesome piece of advertising came out in late 1993 for the home video release. This chapter of the series was polarizing to say the least, and that end credits scene took a while but finally paid off. Not my favorite but definitely enjoyed it.
