Addison Historical Society

Addison Historical Society The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area.
(1)

The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated to promoting the understanding of that history. The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events. Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

Museum Update

As you know, the state of Illinois entered Phase 4: Restore Illinois on Friday, June 26, 2020. The State released a set of mandatory guidelines governing the reopening of museums during this phase. Staff is currently working with Village administration to develop and implement new health and safety protocols for the museum and archives so that we can reopen in a safe and responsible manner. Once this has been completed and necessary supplies and services have been procured, we will let you know of our reopening plans. At this point, we are only going to open the Museum building for scheduled small group tours. The Century House and Coach House present unique challenges because many of the artifacts on display are out in the open and the required cleaning of interior spaces necessitated by the state guidelines would be extremely damaging to them and the historic fabric of the buildings.

We hope you and your families are doing well and look forward to inviting our volunteers and visitors back to the museum soon!

Hi All - My name is Dan Rotermund, descendant of the founding Rotermund family who emmigrated from Rodewald Germany. Was wondering if anyone has any photos to share or privately message to me of any photos Rotermund related - such as the Weber-Rotermund Store, The Rotermund Lumber & Coal Company or any of our family's houses or farms? (Dale Hahne - THANK YOU for all your great posts) Dan
