Addison Historical Society

Addison Historical Society The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall.

The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area. The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated

to promoting the understanding of that history. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events. Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

Society Hat Sale A Success!

The Addison Historical Society held a hat sale on Saturday, August 8th to rehome women's hats that had been donated, but were outside the current collecting scope of the museum. The event raised much needed funds for the museum's collection care fund, cleared a lot of space in collections storage, and made some local vintage hat lovers very happy! Thank you to Society Board member, Kimberly Last for volunteering her help with the sale.

Society Members Tour DuPage Historical Museum

Members of the Addison Historical Society and museum staff toured the DuPage County Historical Museum on Tuesday, August 4th. The group was provided a guided tour by Museum Manager and Educator, Michelle Podkowa and Museum Curator, Emily O'Brien. Michelle provided information about their current redesign plans for their permanent gallery on DuPage County History while Emily showed us their Military Uniform and USA 250 exhibits. The Historical Society lent two items to the 250 display: A facsimile letter from President Gerald Ford to the Village regarding its Bicentennial activities and a handmade vest made by Vivian Krentz for her daughter. The group also was able to view the model railroad layout in action courtesy of the Society of Model Engineers!

Following the in-depth tour, the group adjourned for a delicious lunch at the nearby, Ditka's Grill!
