Addison Historical Society

(1)

The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area. The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated to promoting the understanding of that history. The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events. Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

#GivingTuesday

Dear Addison Historical Society Member,

As you know, the Addison Historical Society launched a college scholarship program in 2016. Since that time, the Society has awarded five $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. The recipient must be a resident of Addison or unincorporated Addison and have been accepted into an accredited 2 or 4-year college program.

As part of the application process, students submit a one-hundred-word essay about how the scholarship would benefit them and provide a thorough description of their school, community, home and work activities. A volunteer committee then reviews and ranks the submissions and selects the recipients. Last year, the scholarship program was expanded to two, $1,000 scholarship awards. In May 2019, the Society awarded scholarships to McKenna Gayon who is attending Carthage College and Jennifer Reyes who is attending Bradley University.

We are reaching out to you, our valued member, once again, in the hopes that you might consider an additional gift to help support our scholarship initiative. The Addison Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and all contributions are tax-deductible. To make sure your gift is deductible for the 2019 tax year, please make sure you check is dated and mailed prior to December 31, 2019.

Thank you for your kind support of our endeavors.

Sincerely yours,
John Navrocki
President
