And as found in the Seattle Daily Times:
“ALLIES RETREAT FROM DUNKIRK
British and French Troops, Some Civilians, bombed By N***s
More than 300,000 Allied troops, cut off by the Germans, are trying to retreat by sea from Dunkirk, in northern France. Hundreds of boats of all kinds, many manned by civilians, are now crossing the British Channel. Aided by the Royal Air Force, they will try to rescue the troops and a number of civilians fleeing the enemy, in spite of heavy German bombing and shelling. If successful, this heroic feat will be one of the most remarkable in military history. It will be a great challenge.”
