“Heykel bölümündeyken karşılaştığım “Balbal” ve “Taş baba” heykelleri, yalın ve güçlü yönleriyle oldukça ilgimi çekmişti,böylece onları yeniden yorumlamaya yöneldim. Öğrencilikte başlayan bu süreçte Brâncuși ve Henry Moore gibi bazı sanatçıların tavrından etkilendim. Onların primitive heykellerden esinlenerek gerçekleştirdikleri soyutlamalar ve o dönem Batı’nın dogmatik biçimsel özelliklerinin kırılması,kaidenin ortadan kalkması gibi süreçleri inceledim. Araştırdıkça daha sonra özellikle Çatalhöyük’te çıkarılan buluntulara yöneldim. Konu böylelikle heykelin ilk kullanım alanlarını araştırma meselesine evrildi, böylece insanda sembolik ve temsili düşüncenin doğuşu, tarih öncesi heykeller ve kültürel nesnelerin korunması, kültürel bilginin aktarılması meseleleri ilgi alanım haline geldi.”

“While I was in the sculpture department, I encountered the Balbal and Taş Baba sculptures. Their simplicity and powerful presence fascinated me, leading me to reinterpret them in my own practice. This process began during my years as a student, when I was influenced by the approaches of artists such as Brâncuși and Henry Moore. I studied how they drew inspiration from so-called primitive sculptures to create abstractions, as well as the broader shift away from the dogmatic formal conventions of Western sculpture at the time, including the abandonment of the pedestal.
As my research deepened, my focus gradually turned to the archaeological discoveries at Çatalhöyük. From there, my interest evolved into investigating the earliest functions of sculpture. This led me to explore the emergence of symbolic and representational thinking in human history, prehistoric sculpture, and the ways in which cultural objects are preserved and cultural knowledge is transmitted.”
