Same design, 1½ years of growth, which do you prefer?

I did the original in 2024, inspired by iconic lines: "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul" from William Ernest Henley's 1875 poem, Invictus.

I'd always intended for this to be in a classical tattoo style, but I was just learning Photoshop and didn't have the skills to pull it off at the time. There's always room for growth, but 1½ years later, I like to think I've improved. I might even come back to this every few years to see how much further I can take it. That idea — being the captain of your own soul — is what I wanted to visualize. The heart as a compass, surrounded by roses. Bold geometric lines, minimalist design, tattoo art with a modern edge. Available as a limited edition print.

Fun Fact: Marilyn Monroe was the original choice to play Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The author, Truman Capote, actually wrote the character specifically for Marilyn but she turned it down on her acting coach's advice.

I wanted to see how far I could strip back these icons while keeping them instantly recognizable. Audrey and Marilyn reimagined through a minimalist, stippled aesthetic—just the bold lines, soft gradients, and essential features that made them legends.
