So, there are some fake news/falsehoods going around about my great-grandfather Haji Yusoff (Hadjee Yousof/Hadjee Eusope) and the haj belt business. It doesn’t help that some company/foundation/organisation/mosque didn’t state the truth; merely going along with the ‘accepted’ narratives is just convenient, n’est pas?
I suppose it’s true when they say that it’s not the eyes but the heart that is blind.

We are excited to have Anderson Teo helping us with a project for the museum. How fortunate are we to work with one of Singapore’s best modellists. Ah oh, Anderson is a long time supporter from Gedung Kuning book days. Watch this space!

Among guests who visited us in April 2026:
1 - 25 students and 5 teachers from UST Angelicum College in Manila attended Heritage Communication workshop at HYMM. These students went around Kampong Gelam and presented their observations. And yes, they had scrumptious Nasi Padang next door.
2 - Sohail Nakhooda, Editor-in-Chief of Islamica magazine (our favourite!)
3 - Bambang Endrosubekti whose family knew the Gedung Kuning family for 60 years
4 - Ridzwan the IT guy from Tampines who was curious about our museum

We collaborated with Halijah Travel to decorate the business pushcart in conjunction with the Malay Heritage Centre Re-Opening celebrations. Haji Yusoff was the original creator of the Haj belt in 1880 with his own trademark label. Halijah Travel is one of the pioneer travel agencies in Singapore that specialized in pilgrimage services. We are happy to also lend our 1930s luggage to the entourage.
