Now the museum has moved to Nova Arena! A big thank you to everyone who attended the opening of Saab Car Museum's exhibition The Box at on Sweden’s National Day, Saturday, June 6! 🙏

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our partners, Trestads Veteranbilklubb and the Trollhättan section of Svenska Saabklubben, whose members volunteered as parking attendants during the event.

While visitors arrived at Innovatum District in their beautiful cars, the final preparations were being completed inside Nova Arena. The local scout troop were setting out hot dogs and pastries, while Svenska Saabklubben was stocking its tent with a variety of products from the club’s shop.

The first thing that greeted the more than 600 visitors was Ursaaben – the very first Saab ever built – now prominently displayed on a podium just inside the entrance. Beyond it stretches a vast collection of 115 cars, led by a striking red formation of five red vehicles, with a 1969 Saab 99 taking the lead.

Once again, we were reminded of just how special the Saab community is. Among our visitors were guests who had traveled from as far away as Australia, Canada, Germany, Portugal and Norway. We hope that everyone who made the trip to Trollhättan that day was satisfied with the goal of the trip.

Former Saab employee Paul Åkerlund, representing the museum’s owner, Trollhättans Stad, gave a brief speech. Instead of cutting a ribbon, he inaugurated the exhibition’s viewing platform by taking a selfie with all the cars and visitors in the background.

We now hope that even more visitors will discover the museum’s new premises during the summer, allowing more people to experience this unique exhibition that will be shown everyday (except midsummer and midsummer day, June 19–20) 10:00–17:00 until September 30.

If you share photos from your visit on social media, please tag Saab Car Museum so we can help spread the word about The Box together.

Once again thanks for supporting Saab Car Museum and the Saab heritage!

The surveillance camera in Nova Arena appears to have recorded some strange activity. It looks as though cars are dancing around inside, but that surely can't be right. 😳 Could it be that they're celebrating Motorhistoriska dagen and Sweden's National Day? 🤔

Help us investigate the matter when the doors open at 10:00 today, Saturday, June 6. 😀

That's it! All the cars are now in place at Nova Arena, so all that remains is everything else before we can welcome our visitors. 😄 We’re just as excited as you are. Welcome to The Box from June 6 to September 30!

Welcome to the premiere of The Box during Motorhistoriska dagen in Trollhättan on June 6!

Summer 2026 will be especially exciting for everyone interested in Saab cars. The museum will move into Nova Arena and present the temporary exhibition The Box.

Between June 6 and September 30, the Saab Car Museum will showcase more cars at one time than ever before. Normally, the museum can display about half of its collection of 140 cars. In The Box, visitors can instead view more than 100 fascinating vehicles. This is a unique chance to experience the world’s finest Saab collection in a way that is unlikely to be repeated in the foreseeable future.

Motorhistoriska dagen is celebrated in many places across Sweden to highlight our automotive cultural heritage. Together with Trestads Veteranbilklubb and Svenska Saabklubben in Trollhättan, we invite all types of historic enthusiast vehicles to the premiere of The Box on June 6.

All clubs and enthusiasts are welcome, regardless of whether the vehicle has two, three, four or perhaps even more wheels! Gather friends and clubmates and use the event as the starting point for your excursions, or end a nice day on beautiful roads by meeting other enthusiasts and enjoying each other's vehicles.

When Volkswagen launched its legendary advertising campaign “Think Small” in 1959, another cute little car was being built in Trollhättan at the same time. Front-wheel drive and a two-stroke engine were unusual features on the American market, and Saab continued to follow its own path.

Saab was always a small car manufacturer from a global perspective, but it made a big impact – both on the industry and on the owners who fell in love with the driver-focused cars featuring unique design and innovative solutions. Saab Car Museum has preserved that heritage since 1975. In the temporary exhibition The Box, the museum will showcase more cars at one time than ever before, so this time, we’re thinking big.

A number of hectic weeks now lie ahead behind the scenes at the Saab Car Museum, as we empty our permanent premises and temporarily move to the nearby Nova Arena.

On Sweden’s National Day, Saturday, June 6, 2026, we will celebrate by opening the doors to Nova Arena, when the museum has been transformed into The Box. This will mark the beginning of a very exciting exhibition where Saab Car Museum will showcase more cars at one time than ever before!

Instead of closing while the museum’s roof is being renovated, we are opening up the treasure box and inviting visitors to enjoy a large selection of the wonderful cars Saab has built over the years – but in a different venue. We truly hope we will meet you inside The Box this summer!

Read more about The Box on our website. Tickets and further details about the opening day, which takes place on Motorhistoriska dagen, will be released soon.

Opening hours Saab Car Museum:
May 4 – June 5: Closed
June 6 – September 30: Open every day, 10:00–17:00 (except Midsummer, closed June 19 & 20)
