Exhibition views of Cyryl Polaczek’s “Sette messi” at ADA in Rome.
“Paintings usually take time. You might finish some in a few days, but for me, it takes weeks or months. It is warm June now, but I painted these during the cold season. Maybe you can tell, maybe not. I found some autumn leaves outside the studio, brought them inside, and painted them scattered on white paper. I often buy fish at a nearby market to arrange still lifes - trouts, sea basses, and prawns. I painted one contemplating prawn over an imaginary seascape. I create these scenes, imagine the sea, or just paint what catches my eye, like Martyna’s violet shoes lying around in her next-door studio.”

Łukasz Korolkiewicz | Błahy incydent

Obrazy prezentowane na wystawie powstały w latach 2022 – 2026. Pozornie to realistycznie namalowane pogodne pejzaże, na tle których pojawiają się ludzkie postacie. Dominuje w nich soczysta zieleń roślin, oświetlonych popołudniowym słońcem. Po uważnym przyjrzeniu się obrazy Korolkiewicza odkrywają jednak przed nami kolejne tajemnice, ukryte we wzajemnych relacjach między ich bohaterami, w tych fragmentach scenerii, która nie jest widoczna dla widza, w odbiciach w szybach.

At Photo London, we are presenting selected photographs from Zygmunt Rytka’s “Bluff” and “Coming Soon” series. In the late 1970s, Rytka turned to politically engaged, critically minded photography, grounding its formal language in the utopian vision of the West that Hollywood cinema had cultivated in the imaginations of people living under Communism in Eastern Europe. Working in staged self-portraiture, Rytka cast himself as an action film superhero — at once inhabiting and mocking the iconography of Western pop culture. At the same time, the work offered a pointed commentary on the tactics of Communist authorities in Poland, who strategically introduced so-called luxury goods and consumer commodities to manufacture desire and divert public attention from the pressing social realities of the day.

This opportunity is supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Polish Cultural Institute in London. Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
