“Dutiful Daughters” reflects Cham Cristobal’s continuing fascination with innocence shaped by responsibility. Set within a dreamlike woodland hideaway overflowing with symbols of play, labor, and imagination, the two young figures stand hand-in-hand—poised between childhood wonder and the quiet expectations placed upon them. Their doll-like expressions hint at a tenderness mixed with fatigue, as if carrying emotional weights far beyond their years.

Surrounded by objects of care—flowers, books, pastries, toys, and painted memories—the daughters become gentle guardians of their own small world. Cristobal contrasts whimsy with subtle melancholy, revealing how duty often enters a child’s life softly, through the desire to nurture, create, and protect. The work invites viewers to reflect on the unseen emotional labor borne by the young, and the fragile beauty that emerges when innocence and responsibility coexist.
