We Announce our Mensa Photocup 2026 Winners!

The results are officially in for the Mensa Photocup 2026. This was an international photography competition which challenged Mensans around the world to interpret the theme "Spark of Evolution" through their best photos.

After the judging of local entries by Mensa Philipppines, here are our winners

First Place: Zoe Arugay-Magat for "Sculpted by Time" (left), capturing the raw, gradual power of nature as flowing water carves smooth pathways through solid rock canyons over immense spans of time.

Second Place: Dimpy Jazmines for "The Static Before the Shift" (top right), featuring a vintage television glowing with static in a warm room to evoke evolutionary leaps in human communication and technology.

Third Place: May Yu-Uy for "The First Spark" (bottom right), framing a dramatic break in the clouds where sunlight outlines a glowing contour in the sky above a chain-link fence and foliage.

Congratulations to Zoe, Dimpy and May, and thank you to all the Mensans who casted their votes!

What's next in the competition? Following these national results, all entries will now proceed into the broader global competitions.

The Mensa International PhotoCup 2026 jury will judge all submitted images worldwide in a blind judging process to search for the "Mensa International Photographer of the Year".

Additionally, our top three national photos will compete globally in the Mensa PhotOlympics 2026 team category.

Furthermore, our national winners will also be formally recognized during our Mensa Philippines 2026 Annual Gathering.

Mensa IQ Challenge Marked Safe and Successful at UP Diliman

QUEZON CITY -- Despite rains across some Philippine areas today, August 29, 2026, test-takers and volunteers gathered at the Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business in UP Diliman for the Mensa IQ Challenge.

Our Mensa volunteers showed up early to ensure the venue was safe, dry, and comfortable. They welcomed the examinees, assisted with their check-in, and answered questions about the test and the organization.

Online, volunteers were also actively handling real-time inquiries. They also shared situation reports and reminders for those facing difficult travel to prioritize safety and join future testing dates instead.

With everybody's support, the hourly testing ran smoothly from morning to afternoon. After the last test, the team also stayed behind to help check the answer sheets.

Official results will be announced once papers go through a final check by Mensa Philippines Testing Director Dr. Jessy Gutierrez, and our test-takers will receive their results via email.

This rainy day activity also gave our members a great chance to bond. Between testing sessions, volunteers and members caught up with each other, swapped plans for the rest of the weekend, shared lunch, and played board games.

We thank all the test-takers who traveled safely to UP Diliman today, as well as our volunteers who made this event possible.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE MENSA IQ CHALLENGE

Going to the Mensa IQ Challenge at UP Diliman this August 29?

You'll be happy to know that no specific preparation is required, but a little practice can help you feel more comfortable with the types of problems you’ll encounter.

You can try out this sample test here - https://www.mensa.org/mensa-iq-challenge/. Note that this is a practice test, and your score here does not qualify you for membership.

Meanwhile, the actual test you will take qualifies you for membership, once you've passed it. The passing requirement is the 98th percentile, which means you need to score within the top 2% of test-takers.

The test focuses on logic and reasoning rather than mathematical knowledge, language, or familiarity with a particular culture.

Before the test, you can spend some time practicing these skills:

Pattern recognition -- identify sequences, repetitions, and changes in shapes or symbols.

Spatial reasoning -- practice rotations, reflections, symmetry, and changes in position.

Logical relationships -- determine how different figures or elements relate to one another.

Time management -- practice solving problems within a limited amount of time. Try to avoid spending too much time on one difficult problem. If you get stuck, move on and return to it if allowed.

Pro Tip: After you see the patterns, try to visualize the answer even before looking at the options. This way, finding your visualized answer among the options confirms your theory and can help you arrive at the correct answer faster.

Also, when practicing, don't just focus on getting the right answer. Try to understand why and how it is correct.

Most importantly, get enough sleep, arrive early, and stay relaxed. Just be yourself and give yourself the best opportunity to enjoy solving the puzzles.

If you have not yet registered for the Mensa IQ Challenge this August 29, 2026 (Saturday) at UP Diliman, Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business, you can go to https://mensaphilippines.org/ . The hourly tests will be from 9:00 AM, and the last test will start at 2:00 PM.

Mensa PH Celebrates Another Successful Philippine Speedcubing Championship

Last July 9–12, 2026, Mensa Philippines joined the Philippine speedcubing community in celebrating the GAN Philippine Championship 2026. The event brought together some of the country’s finest minds, competitors, and problem-solvers.

Held at Robinsons Place Pavia, this year’s PhilChamps featured four days of exciting competition, showcasing the speed, precision, strategy, and sportsmanship of the country’s top speedcubers.

Organized by the Negros Speedcubers Organizing Committee (NSOC), the event was more than a competition. It was a celebration of people who love to solve, learn, and improve.

Speedcubing is not simply about how quickly a puzzle can be solved; it is also about understanding problems, finding efficient solutions, learning from mistakes, and continually seeking improvement. For Mensa Philippines, these qualities reflect a broader appreciation for the many ways intelligence can be expressed.

As part of Mensa Philippines’ participation in the event, participants were also invited to take the Mensa IQ Challenge on August 29, 2026, at UP Diliman. This allows them to further explore their reasoning and problem-solving abilities beyond the cubing arena.

Mensa Philippines congratulates all the competitors of GAN Philippine Championship 2026 for their dedication, discipline, and achievements.

We also extend our appreciation to the Negros Speedcubers Organizing Committee, GAN, World Cube Association, officials, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters whose collective efforts made the championship possible.
