Contemporary fine arts museum in the heart of Makati Aside from temporary exhibits, Yuchengco Museum highlights Amb.

The Yuchengco Museum opened its doors in September 2005 with the support from the Founder, Filipino-Chinese businessman, diplomat, collector, philanthropist, art patron, and education advocate Amb. Alfonso Yuchengco as a safe haven for his art collection but as well as a venue for artistic and cultural exhibitions and excellence. Yuchengco Museum strives to maintain the goal to foster a greater public appreciation of art through the finest international and local, cultural, historical, design exhibits and programs. Located in the heart of Metro Manila’s financial district, Makati, the Museum is not only a “temple” that showcases art, but also a “forum” of exchange, debate and education. Yuchengco’s distinguished career and the history of the Yuchengco Groups of Companies as seen in the YGC Gallery. The museum also highlights our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal and those close to him in the Rizal Gallery and masters such as Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo and Carlos “Botong” Francisco who have celebrated Filipinos through their pieces. Cesar Legaspi, Ang Kiukok and Vicente Manansala are just a few of the National Artists and incredible names that can also be found throughout the museum’s permanent collections. As art transforms and adapts to a modern world, Yuchengco Museum has expanded to give audiences more access through an online presence. History, exhibits (old and new), films, knowledge & information and shop are now a click away with the website and social media, giving those from far away access to what’s happening locally.

What makes something valuable? Who decides?

Under the Yuchengco Museum’s Curators Lab, Joel Wijangco presents ‘The Art of Worth’, bringing together six works of art from the YGC Collection in dialogue with luxury fashion and design. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the relationship between artistic merit, craftsmanship, rarity, reputation, and price.

Featuring paintings, sculptures, and art objects by Filipino artists, alongside fashion presented by the Philippine Fashion Coalition (PFC) and furniture by SoFA Design Institute, the exhibition turns looking into an exercise in judgment.

When art and luxury share the same space, what shapes our perception of value? And what, if anything, can a price tag tell us about a work of art?

Presenting an afternoon of photography, conversation, pottery, and food as we look more closely at the Cordillera’s enduring relationship with rice. 🍚

Noli Gabilo, a renowned Filipino master travel, landscape, and astrophotography artist talks about ‘The Cordillera Rice Culture: How I Photograph It’, sharing his longstanding photographic engagement with the region and its communities. A mentor to Joey de Castro, Gabilo’s photographs offer a perspective that places landscape, culture, and everyday life at the centre of the conversation.

Toyo Eatery brings the story of the Cordillera to the table through Tinawon heirloom rice, a treasured variety preserved by Ifugao communities across generations. For this special tasting, Tinawon will be served in Joey de Castro’s handmade pottery, whose forms and textures draw inspiration from the landscapes of the Cordillera.

Together, the works invite us to consider the many ways culture is carried forward — through looking, making, growing, and sharing.

In Memoriam: Prime Minister Cesar E. A. Virata

Together with his family, friends, and loved ones, the Yuchengco Museum mourns the passing of Prime Minister Cesar E.A. Virata, who served on the Museum’s Board of Trustees since its founding.

For more than two decades, Prime Minister Virata shared his steadfast support for the Museum and offered invaluable guidance on its programs, policies, and institutional development. His service and counsel have been an enduring part of the Museum’s history.

The Board of Trustees and Staff of the Yuchengco Museum extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We honor his legacy of service and his lasting contribution to the Museum. May he rest in peace.

Coming to Life: Through the Lens & to the Table

At the Yuchengco Museum, photography, pottery, and food come together in an exploration of the Cordillera — its landscapes, traditions, and enduring relationship with rice. Join us for a talk on photography and a culinary experience for Joey De Castro’s ongoing showcase, ‘Coming to Life’ at YSpace.

In this showcase, Joey De Castro revisits his origins in photography, juxtaposing works from his photographic practice with pieces from his ongoing exploration of ceramics. Across both mediums, qualities of colour, texture, and composition emerge through the process of creating.
