Silverlens Galleries Manila | New York Silverlens is an international gallery with locations in both Manila and New York.

Through its artist representation, institutional partnerships, art consultancy, and exhibition programming including art fairs and gallery collaborations, Silverlens aims to place its artists within the broader framework of the contemporary art dialogue. Its continuing efforts to transcend borders across art communities in Asia have earned it recognition as one of the leading contemporary art gall

eries in Southeast Asia. Silverlens was founded in Manila by Isa Lorenzo in 2004, and in 2007 she was joined by co-director Rachel Rillo. In September 2022, the gallery opened its doors in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York, broadening its international scope and bringing its diverse roster of artists to a new global audience.

MANILA: Silverlens is pleased to present sum of its parts, a new solo exhibition by MM Yu, on view from 29 August through 03 October 2026.

sum of its parts is photographer and painter MM Yu’s response to an art ecology that favors constant making. In the present series, the artist maintains her long-standing fidelity to the camera and pigment and turns to the image plane as her primary apparatus instead.

Modularity emerges as a key approach: the works continue to employ her signature dripping technique, but the canvas itself becomes her primary device for exploration. She toys with their configurations, breaking each into separate components that she can swap, flip, and recombine to generate new relationships with form.

MANILA: Silverlens is honored to present The Orchid Pavilion, Part One of Wawi Navarroza’s trilogy “The Double-Naveled and Triple-Tongued, A Tropical Gothic Troika”, on view from 29 August through 03 October 2026.

The Orchid Pavilion is the first of the artist’s trilogy of exhibitions informed by the Philippines’ transpacific exchanges, acculturations, and material and artistic histories shaped by the movement of the Manila Galleons. It focuses on the Philippines’ pan-Asian heritage, particularly the Chinese presence woven into Filipino identity.

Taking literature and poetry as points of departure, Navarroza turns to the Philippines’ layered past, looking beyond its broad strokes—heroes, events, and unified narratives—to the details within them. She approaches history through a sensorial lens, imagining the worlds inhabited by the people we now call Filipinos during the time of the Manila Galleons. Throughout the exhibition, she uses her body as a medium, inhabiting different identities and bringing the past into the present. Her tableaux conjure visions of Manila as a bustling, cosmopolitan entrepôt, where disparate people, languages, and traditions converged and left their traces on the city.

The gallery will reopen on Saturday, 22 August 2026, for the final day of mirrors, merging by Catalina Africa and small vast things by Ayka Go.

Silverlens New York remains open.

Watch Ayka Go as she reflects on small vast things, presented in a solo exhibition at Silverlens, Manila.

During a period of relative quietude in 2025, Ayka devoted considerable time to cultivating a garden at her studio. What began as an attempt to grow fruit-bearing trees and flowering plants gradually developed into a small ecosystem inhabited by butterflies, caterpillars, and dragonflies. She became increasingly attentive to subtle cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, such as the falling of leaves, the emergence of insects, and the delicate traces they leave behind.

NEW YORK: Geraldine Javier’s U.S. solo debut, State of the Nations, opens at Silverlens New York on 10 September 2026. The exhibition will be on view through 24 October, with an opening reception on Thursday, 10 September, from 6:00-8:00 PM.

“Every morning the artist Geraldine Javier with her dog Freya starts work by walking out into her garden to gather leaves, flowers and occasionally bits of bark. “Garden” here may not be the most accurate word. She lives in an old farm 2.3 hectares (5.7 acres) large, and now calls herself an “artist-farmer”. 

Over the last four years eco-printing has been so consuming a medium or process that she has had no time to paint. Eco-printing means to press the sap or pigment of leaves, roots, flowers and bark into paper or fabric. “I hope the audience will delight in nature and share my concern at the damage of it,” says Javier. Employing and supporting those people who live in her compound or the local barangay and who embroider (ten on this project), garden, or otherwise make the work possible is central to her. “It is very important to me that this work is very handmade and made with natural materials,” says Javier, “It is important to show that things like this can only be made by hand.”
 
Javier finds hope also when she sees people and communities working with nature, setting up community kitchens, growing organic vegetables, working for democracy, making things by hand, caring for others. As Rebecca Solnit recently suggested, “Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war.”

Happy birthday to Silverlens founder and co-director, Isa Lorenzo!

Since founding Silverlens in Manila in 2004, Isa has shaped the gallery into a platform for artists, ideas, and conversations that extend far beyond the gallery walls. With Rachel Rillo joining as co-director in 2007, and the opening of Silverlens New York in Chelsea in 2022, that vision continues to reach new audiences around the world.

Danish-Filipino artist Daniel Cabrillos Jacobsen (Daniel Cabrillos Jacobsen) draws inspiration from Gee’s Bend quilts and his mother’s migration history, stitching together layered fabric supports to explore memory, identity, and cultural contrast.

Grounded in the Filipino ethos of diskarte, a form of inventive resourcefulness born out of necessity, and the bold geometric abstraction of modernism, Jacobsen constructs a visual vocabulary navigating the interstitial, in-between spaces of diasporic life.

Join us in sending birthday cheers to Nicole Coson! We are thrilled to announce her upcoming show, Vessels, at Commonwealth and Council in Los Angeles, organized by Silverlens from September 19 through October 24, 2026.

Nicole Coson (b. 1992, Manila) is a Filipino artist based in London. She holds an MFA in Painting from the Royal College of Art London and a BA in Fine art from Central Saint Martins. Working in printmaking, painting, and sculpture, Coson’s work explores the process of image-making as it pertains to personal memory, history, and material culture.
