During his residency at Bergen Kunsthall, artist .matsune invites the people of Bergen for a cup of tea. Starting from this simple gesture, he offers tea drinking as a performative encounter—a space for dialogue, reflection, and the exchange of thoughts.
Topics may range from good weather to bad taste in art and existential questions about life and death. Developed under the working title Your Cup of Tea, these tea sessions take place one-on-one or in small groups. Book your spot and be part of this unique experience.
This residency is organised in partnership with .
Michikazu Matsune is an artist whose work spans a wide range of practices, including stage performances, interventions in public and private spaces, as well as participatory projects and publications. At the crossroads of conceptual and documentary methods—where poetry, humour, the absurd, and critique intersect— his approach examines the interplay between global and local contexts, public and private realms, and unity and diversity within society. Michikazu is the founder of performance projects such as Homesick Festival (since 2017) and The Institute of Sleepless Nights (since 2022).
His works have been presented internationally at renowned venues including Festival d’Avignon, Festival d’Automne Paris, Gwangju Biennale, Kyoto Experiment, The Centre for the Less Good Idea in Johannesburg, Spring Festival Utrecht, Tanzquartier Vienna, Wiener Festwochen, Kunsthaus Graz, and BIT Bergen Internasjonale Teater, among others. He teaches performance art at the University of Arts Linz. Born and raised in Kobe, Michikazu is based in Vienna and Bergen.
