Stroom Den Haag Stroom Den Haag is an art center in The Hague, Netherlands Stroom Den Haag is a center for visual arts with a wide range of activities.

The program is based on the conviction that art offers new insights and makes an important contribution to the discussion about the city, culture and society. Stroom's policy is not committed to any particular movement. The centre is open to everyone with stimulating ideas or a need for information regarding art and the urban environment. It aims at being a hospitable and stimulating platform. Sta

rting from this mentality Stroom, in collaboration with other institutions, wants to contribute to the permanent development of the reflection on the city and the part that can be played by the visual arts in this context. Stroom organizes exhibitions, projects, lectures, workshops and excursions. It initiates research and debates to stimulate the transfer of knowledge and the development of ideas concerning art and related disciplines. Within this context Stroom expands its library and issues publications. In addition, Stroom's policy is focused on stimulating the art climate of The Hague and improving the visibility of art and artists from The Hague. Stroom mediates, advises and offers suggestions to artists and supports a large number of projects in public space. The name Stroom was chosen because it stands for energy and movement. Stroom Den Haag is supported financially by the city of The Hague. The program is also made possible by the Mondriaan Fund. OPENING HOURS

Stroom Den Haag is closed on January 1, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Sunday and the first day of Christmas (December 25). Stroom Den Haag is accessible for people in wheelchairs.

This summer, Stroom Den Haag presents Funding Demystified, a two-day workshop focused on fundraising and writing project applications. Guided by Laura Alexander, in collaboration with the Prins Claus Fund, participants will work alongside fellow artists to develop practical skills and insights for applying for funding in the Netherlands.

Join us this Friday for the opening of ⌀ [dia].

This is the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands of Ana María Gómez López. Through self-experimentation she investigates how body, matter and planetary time are intertwined, bringing the body back as a source of knowledge.

The evening includes a set by DJ Pablo Paresse, food & drinks.
Tip: since HOOGTIJ #85 takes place the same night, make it a full evening and explore the other art venues across The Hague city centre after the opening.

Deze maand namen we afscheid van Ossip Snoeck (1952–2026), een eigenzinnige kunstenaar die onlosmakelijk verbonden was met het Haagse kunstenveld. Ossip woonde en werkte jarenlang op een steenworp afstand van Stroom, en we hebben een lange relatie met hem die dateert van projecten zoals De Bocht van Guinee (1991–1994) en Stand van Zaken (2004). Twee jaar geleden steunden we via PRO zijn grote overzichtstentoonstelling bij BRUTUS in Rotterdam; een bijzonder eerbetoon.

Wie door Den Haag loopt, komt zijn naam nog geregeld tegen. Bij het Newtonplein staat een van zijn buitenwerken; het is een line-up van twaalf kleurrijke figuren die spelen, balanceren en leunen op het hek van de speelplaats. Vrolijk en midden in onze stad. Zijn werk laat diepe sporen na in de Nederlandse kunstwereld.

Sign up for the workshop: undoing devices

Our neighbourhoods are filled with ‘smart’ household objects. From smart lamps and doorbells, to televisions, security cameras, speakers and fridges. What does ‘smart’ mean? Where do these objects come from and where do they go? What happens to the data they collect? And how could we imagine these objects differently? During this collaborative workshop we will open the black box and poke at the mechanisms of one of our closest household technologies. We will talk, make drawings, play and hack. No prior experience necessary!

About the artist: is an artist and researcher in the field of everyday technology. By investigating, hacking, reusing and personalising existing technological structures, her work raises questions about the relationship between humans and machines, and our dependency and agency in an increasingly digital world. She strives for a practice of care, imagination and resistance, where technology is not something that happens to us, but something we shape together.

Join us on Tuesday, 9 June, for a talk with Colombian artist Ana María Gómez López, hosted by Stroom and the BA Fine Arts programme at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK).

About
Ana María Gómez López is an artist from Cali, Colombia based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her practice centers on self-experimentation using organic specimens, clinical procedures, and technical instruments, as informed by archival research on histories of science and legacies of utopian thought. First-hand engagement with museums, libraries, and scientific collections are the backbone of her artistic and pedagogical commitments.

Te zien t/m 2 juni: Jozef van der Horst’s handgeblazen lichtobjecten bij Pulchri
Hoe ziet een leven lang kunstenaarschap eruit? In de tentoonstelling Iedereen heeft ‘kunst’licht nodig komt de decennialange praktijk van Jozef van der Horst samen in één ruimte. Zijn werk – gedreven door ambachtelijke precisie en intuïtie – bevindt zich al ruim 50 jaar op het snijvlak van beeldhouwkunst, installatie en lichtkunst.

Wat hebben emoties met dekolonisatie te maken? En met sociaal-ecologisch herstel en transformatie?

Meld je aan voor de artist talk, workshop en Braziliaanse maaltijd met een Zeeuwse knipoog, op donderdag 21 mei.

Tijdens deze avond maak je kennis met kunstenaar Anne Jesuina. In hun belichaamde artistieke praktijk onderzoekt Anne hoe we een constructieve houding kunnen aannemen ten opzichte van de socio-ecologische uitdagingen van onze tijd. Dit doet zij door met emoties te werken vanuit een dekoloniaal en meer-dan-menselijk perspectief, waarin emoties zelf een ‘meer-dan-menselijke’ kracht vormen. Met geschreven tekst, muziek, stem, performance en bewegend beeld maakt Anne ruimte voor collectieve vormen van herstel, zorg en transformatie.

Centraal in de installatie "In de ogen van het water" staat een mythologische confrontatie. Een wezen zonder naam, ontstaan uit ontmoetingen tussen Zeeuwse, West-Afrikaanse en Braziliaanse watergeesten, keert terug naar de plek waar in 2023 het slavernijmonument Kom in Vlissingen werd geplaatst, en kort daarna door de gemeente moest worden verwijderd. De installatie vraagt: Hoe zou onze wereld eruitzien als onze gemeentes, overheden en instanties emotioneel intelligent zouden opereren? Zou het monument dan ook zijn verwijderd?

‘Chefe Preta pelo Mundo’, .keyla, bereidt speciaal voor deze avond een Braziliaanse maaltijd met een Zeeuwse twist, waarin dezelfde culturele en historische verbindingen samenkomen als in het werk van Anne Jesuina.

Deze maand opende de 61e Biënnale van Venetië, In Minor Keys. In Venetië zijn momenteel ook verschillende kunstenaars en curatoren te zien met wie Stroom de afgelopen jaren heeft samengewerkt.

Jenna Sutela presenteerde in 2025 bij Stroom haar eerste solotentoonstelling in Nederland, ave bossa, bow ole, en vertegenwoordigt in Venetië Finland met Aeolian Suite, een installatie van wind, geluid en beweging. Buhlebezwe Siwani realiseerde vorig jaar in Den Haag het nieuwe monument ter herdenking van het trans-Atlantische slavernijverleden, Remember Our United Beginning. Tijdens de Biënnale is haar werk te zien in de Giardini en Arsenale.

Ook Natasha Tontey, die in 2022 deelnam aan de tentoonstelling From the Sea to the Clouds to the Soil bij Stroom, presenteert in Venetië een nieuwe immersieve installatie rond lichamelijke transformatie, inheemse kennis en verzet. Daarnaast is curator Rieke Vos, sinds 2024 lid van de PRO-adviescommissie van Stroom, betrokken als curator van het Nederlands paviljoen van de Biënnale.

Mooi om te zien hoe deze praktijken en samenwerkingen verder resoneren binnen een internationale context als de Biënnale van Venetië.

Morgen loopt de Pride Walk langs Stroom en openen we onze deuren als pitstop langs de route. In aanloop daarnaartoe toont de bibliotheek van t/m 17 mei een tijdelijke selectie in de etalage, rondom gelijkheid en gelaagde perspectieven. De bibliotheek is open van woensdag t/m zondag, 12:00–17:00 uur. Loop vooral langs!

On Saturday 16 May, the Pride Walk passes by Stroom and we will open our doors as a pitstop along the route. In the days surrounding the walk, from 8 to 17 May, the Stroom library presents a temporary window selection, around equality and layered perspectives. The library is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 12:00–17:00. We hope to see you there!
