In August and September, Laura De Jaeger was the artist in residence at Billytown. She focused on gathering or gleaning. Working with what is sticky in her immediate surroundings—from the material of an archive of exhibition leaflets to traces found in De Helena building — she paraphrased materials, toying with its connotations. The result will be shown in her studio on the first floor of Billytown, as well as at The Billytown Bookshop Billytown Bookshop on September 25th and 26th.

Laura De Jaeger (1995) is an artist based between Belgium and Estonia. Her practice approaches objects and sites through rest, pausing, and boredom. She works with found objects, photo, video, and writing, often in an installative way. De Jaeger has exhibited in Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany and Serbia. Alongside her practice, she writes, teaches at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and guides through exhibitions in WIELS.

This residency is supported by Flanders State of the Art and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

Where the Water Returns to Stillness is Yukari Nakamichi’s solo exhibition as part of Billytown’s 2026 exhibition programme. The exhibition takes the form of an immersive installation that brings together sculpture, sound, light, kinetic elements, and audience participation.
The exhibition explores loneliness and the many emotions that arise throughout a person’s life. Drawing on personal memories, everyday experiences, folktales, and myths, it unfolds as an immersive installation centered on encounters, farewells, affection, and loss. Just as disturbed water gradually returns to stillness, the emotions stirred by our relationships with others also transform over time. The installation invites visitors to experience this gradual process of change as they move through the space.
