๐ฏ๐ญ โ โHet is een ziekte,โ zei een van de oudere clubleden toen hem werd gevraagd naar voetbal als hobby. Tijdens zijn eerste bezoek aan de voetbalclub viel William Ludwig Lutgens direct het ritueel rond alcohol op - onderdeel van een grotere, bijna theatrale cultuur die het sociale leven rondom het spel vormgeeft.
Vanuit Comos, de Griekse god van de jeugd en de afterparty, ontwikkelde Lutgens vijf personages. Een supporter, een Fritz Korbach-achtige coach, een god, een stadsmonument en een scheidsrechter, vormen samen een eigen folklore voetbaluniversum. Ze staan, leunen, hurken of liggen en bieden zich aan als obstakels om vrije trappen op te oefenen. De verweerde en imperfecte figuren verwijzen naar levens gevormd door spel, gewoonte en de sociale omgeving van het voetbal.
Met dit werk onderzoekt Lutgens de absurditeit, herhaling en rituelen van de voetbalcultuur, met bijzondere aandacht voor de โderde helftโ en de manier waarop die mensen vormt.

During his first visit to the football club, William Ludwig Lutgens immediately noticed the rituals surrounding alcohol - part of a larger, almost theatrical culture surrounding the social life of the game.
Drawing from Comos, the Greek god of youth and the afterparty, Lutgens developed five characters. A supporter, a Fritz Korbach-like coach, a god, a city monument and a referee, form a football folklore universe. They stand, lean, crouch or lie down, offering themselves as obstacles to practice free kicks against. These weathered, imperfect figures reflect lives shaped by play, habit, and exposure to the gameโs social environment.
With this work, Lutgens explores the absurdity, repetition and rituals of football culture, with particular attention to the โthird halfโ and the way it shapes the people within it.
