We komen steeds dichter bij de opening van Collectie als kosmos op zaterdag 6 juni. Tijd om ook dichter bij de kunstwerken zelf te komen.

In een kosmos hangt alles met elkaar samen, van het allerkleinste detail tot het oneindig grote. Zoom met ons mee in op de structuren, texturen en verhalen van de nieuwe opstelling.

Achter de schermen van Collectie als kosmos: deze week werd een bijzonder kunstwerk geïnstalleerd bij het Van Abbemuseum 🛠️✨

Dit is Sonic Celestial Rope – Dodecagon Infinite Curl in Red Staccato van , een 24 meter lange ketting van bellen die zich straks uitstrekt van het plafond tot aan de kelder. Het werk is gebaseerd op een Koreaans volksverhaal Sister Sun and Brother Moon waarin kinderen via een touw naar de hemel ontsnappen en veranderen in de zon en de maan.

Vanaf de opening van Collectie als kosmos op 6 juni verbindt dit kunstwerk de aarde met de hemel. Extra bijzonder: de bellen rinkelen dan elke dag exact op de Eindhovense zonnemiddag: het moment waarop de zon haar allerhoogste punt boven de stad bereikt.☀️🔔

A look behind the scenes: a very special artwork was installed this week 🛠️✨

This is the Sonic Celestial Rope – Dodecagon Infinite Curl in Red Staccato by Haegue Yang—a 24-meter-long chain of bells that stretches all the way from the ceiling down to the basement. The artwork is inspired by Korean folktale Sister Sun and Brother Moon which children escape a tiger by climbing a rope into the sky, eventually transforming into the sun and the moon.

From the opening of Collection as Cosmos on June 6 onwards, this piece will connect the earth to the heavens. What makes it even more special: the bells will chime every single day at the exact solar noon in Eindhoven, the precise moment the sun reaches its highest point above the city. ☀️🔔

Uitnodiging: opening nieuwe collectiepresentatie, zaterdag 6 juni! ✨

Graag nodigen we je uit voor een bijzondere opening bij Van Abbemuseum. Vanaf 11:00 uur openen we de deuren van een volledig vernieuwd museum. Ontdek onze nieuwe collectiepresentatie Collectie als kosmos, het vernieuwde Dommelplein, een gloednieuw entreegebied en het herontworpen Van Abbe café.

Naast de officiële opening om 13:00 uur door directeur en senior curator , kun je de hele dag door het museum dwalen en laten verrassen door live-activaties en interactieve kunstwerken. Luister naar de bellen van Haegue Yang wanneer de zon haar hoogste punt bereikt, doe mee aan het aquarelritueel van Sarkis, of schuif aan bij de workshops van Ad Minoliti en kunstenaar G. Ook voor families en kinderen is er volop programma, van Zodiac Bingo tot sterrenkijken met het Dr. A.F. Philips Observatorium.

We warmly invite you to a very special opening at the Van Abbemuseum. From 11:00 AM onwards, we welcome you to a completely reimagined museum. Discover our new collection display Collection as Cosmos, the newly developed Dommelplein, a brand-new entrance area, and our redesigned Van Abbe café.

Along with the official opening at 1:00 PM by director Defne Ayas and senior curator Yolande Zola Zoli van der Heide, you can wander through the museum all day to discover live activations and interactive artworks. Listen to Haegue Yang’s bells chime at the exact moment the sun reaches its highest point, join Sarkis’s watercolour ritual, or participate in workshops by Ad Minoliti and artist G. There is also plenty to do for families and children, from Zodiac Bingo to stargazing with the Dr. A.F. Philips Observatory.

Tijdens de opening van “Spillage” hing Göksu Kunak in een harnas, tekende op de muren, las een tekst en bewoog door de ruimte volgens een tekstuele reeks. Hen verwijst naar baanbrekende performancekunstenaars zoals Judy Chicago en Carolee Schneemann, en bevraagt de regels van musea, theaters en publieke ruimtes. ✏️ “Spillage” onderzoekt psychose als moment van nieuwe kansen, niet enkel als verlies van grip op de werkelijkheid. EN: For the opening performance of “Spillage”, Göksu Kunak hung in a harness, drew on the walls, read a text and moved in the space according to a score. Nu op e-flux: Met trots delen we dat het Van Abbemuseum een nieuw hoofdstuk opent met Collectie als kosmos en het vernieuwde Dommelplein.

In deze nieuwe collectiepresentatie worden meer dan 250 werken samengebracht in een niet-lineaire opstelling waarin verschillende vormen van tijd, ontmoeting en verbinding centraal staan. Tegelijk opent het Dommelplein: een vernieuwde publieke ruimte aan de Dommel voor kunst, gesprekken, workshops en samenkomst.

Ook lanceren we System Thinkers, een nieuw onderzoeksprogramma waarin kunstenaars en denkers samenwerken rond urgente maatschappelijke vraagstukken.

EN Now on e-flux: We are proud to share that the Van Abbemuseum is opening a new chapter with Collection as Cosmos and the renewed Dommelplein.

This new collection presentation brings together more than 250 works in a non-linear arrangement centered on different forms of time, encounter, and connection. At the same time, Dommelplein opens as a renewed public space along the Dommel River for art, conversations, workshops, and gathering.

We are also launching System Thinkers, a new research program in which artists and thinkers collaborate around urgent social issues.

Collection as Cosmos was developed and curated by Yolande Zola Zoli van der Heide, in collaboration with Defne Ayas, Steven ten Thije, Abril Cisneros Ramírez, Nikita Hurkmans, and the broader team of the Van Abbemuseum. In “Heavenly Biches” zorgen de fantasierijke, beschilderde doeken van Matthew Lutz-Kinoy voor een gevoel van beweging in de zaal. De werken doen denken aan coulissen, maar ook aan historische landschapsschilderingen en zeegezichten🖼️. De titel verwijst naar “Les Biches”, een ballet uit 1924 met ontwerp van Marie Laurencin, waarin speelsheid en hunkering samenkomen zonder een duidelijke verhaallijn🩰. Een herinterpretatie van muziek van Franse componist Francis Poulenc klinkt zacht in de zaal. Matthew Lutz-Kinoy reflecteert op posities van dans en verlangen, van zowel vroeger als nu, met schilderijen die functioneren als scenografie. Kleuren, schaal en structuur sturen hoe we kijken, bewegen en pauzeren. Deze ruimte nodigt uit tot voelen en reflecteren. Nu te zien in de tentoonstelling “Make Some Noise: Desire. Stage. EN In “Heavenly Biches,” Matthew Lutz-Kinoy's imaginative painted canvases create a sense of movement in the room. The works are reminiscent of stage sets, but also of historical landscape paintings and seascapes🖼️. The title refers to “Les Biches,” a 1924 ballet designed by Marie Laurencin, in which playfulness and longing come together without a clear storyline 🩰. A reinterpretation of music by French composer Francis Poulenc plays softly in the room. Matthew Lutz-Kinoy reflects on positions of dance and desire, both past and present, with paintings that function as scenography. Colors, scale, and structure guide how we look, move, and pause. Hoe zijn geluid en herinneringen verbonden? Deze vrijdag 15 mei kun je tussen 15:00 en 15:30 gratis komen luisteren naar Atheer Soot, een project van de kunstenaar Moe Mustafa. Atheer Soot is een Arabische uitdrukking voor “een geluid dat resoneert in de leegte”. Het project neemt je mee op een atmosferische reis door rustgevende en melancholische geluiden. Atheer Soot zal het recente album “The Echo of Your Skin” live uitvoeren. Dit evenement vindt plaats in de Klankkast, die deel uitmaakt van de tentoonstelling “Make Some Noise: Desire. Stage. EN How are sound and memories connected? On this Friday May 15th, between 3 PM and 3:30 PM, you can come listen to Atheer Soot for free, a project by artist Moe Mustafa. Atheer Soot is an Arabic expression meaning “a sound that resonates in the void.” The project takes you on an atmospheric journey through soothing and melancholic sounds.
