How do you let go of the fear you feel for someone else? In our latest interview, we dive into Fight, Flight or Freeze?, a deeply personal project born from the reality of life in Ukraine. The work explores the friction between the choices we make for ourselves and the ones our loved ones wish we would make instead.
Inspired by Daryna’s drawings of her parents in Zaporizhzhia and Marjo’s own experience living in Kyiv, the project manifests as six textile works. Using a collage technique inspired by Sergei Paradzjanov and crafted from Dutch waste-wool and Carpathian h**p, these pieces prove that even the most “useless” materials can offer protection, color, and history.
It’s a raw reflection on the basic human instinct to seek safety—and the bravery it takes to stay.
