Prasad Hettiarachchi (b. 1975, Colombo) lived and worked in Rajagiriya, Colombo before moving to Bentota in early 2018. He obtained certification in Mural Painting Conservation and Archaeology at the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya, and after a brief stint in the advertising world in 2010, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to art.

Prasad has shown on numerous occasions both locally and abroad, his debut exhibition with Barefoot Gallery Colombo was in 2015, ‘Neighbours Dancing in my Garden’ is his 6th solo exhibition with the gallery. Last year he became the first recipient of the residency programme through KALĀ , and spent two transformative months in Karnataka at Hampi Art Labs , immersing himself in the landscapes, craft traditions, and communities. From here he travelled to Delhi, where his work was shown at Delhi Contemporary Art Week and then again at Art Mumbai .

Prasad’s training in conservation and archaeology continues to shape his work. Having studied cave paintings and temple murals as visual records of history, he now documents the present, capturing a Sri Lanka marked by landscape and political change. His paintings stand as a record of this moment in time, creating a visual archive that future generations may one day read as we read the past.

Works by Bilaal Raji Saheed

Bilaal Raji Saheed is a visual artist and architectural designer based in Colombo. He has an MA from the Royal College of Arts, London and a BA from the University of Hong Kong.

He has worked on projects with OMA and the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design and collaborates on design projects at the Hatch Makers Studio. While at the RCA he explored the spatial politics of the Nuclear Family and its impact on art and design. His work explores themes of form, identity and spirituality. He works across multiple mediums and disciplines with paper, pixels, concrete, and acrylic among other materials. He has exhibited in Hong Kong, London, Colombo, Jeddah, Berlin, Goa & Islamabad.

His most recent body of work plays with re-interpretations of popular global visual culture at the intersection of current affairs, cultural identity and technology. His pastel drawing “Beruwala Blues” is in the Lahore Museums collection of contemporary paintings.

Works by Mayun Kaluthantri.

Mayun is an artist and organiser based in Nilwella, a southern fishing village in Sri Lanka. Informed by burnout in tech-startups of Colombo, his self-taught practice draws from the rhythms of coastal life, giving space to explore class-aspirations, masculinity and labour - as tradition, modernity and ecology clash in post-war Sri Lanka.

Favouring tactile and contemplative methods, Mayun’s process expands on passing encounters and personal narratives, channeling them into experimental and affective blends of medium across painting, photography, printed-matter, and text.

As an active member of The Packet, Mayun fosters collective, playful and intimate artistic interventions. He also organises Monsoon Blues & Co. gatherings, where sound and poetry come together in moments of performance, community and shared dialogue.

Works by Elizabeth Porter

Elizabeth Porter first visited Sri Lanka over 30+ years ago and kept returning to the island thereafter for inspiration. It is in Sri Lanka that her ideas for paintings were first conceived, while they came into being in her studio.

Her work reflects her interest in how, in the middle of the city nature, particularly birds, animals and insects, still find their place. Painting on panels of gold leaf, her images call to mind religious icons and draw the viewer intimately towards these creatures, asking us to re-evaluate the things we consider insignificant.

In Europe she is known for working on large scale collaborations with designers, architects and entrepreneurs such as Nicky Haslam, Robin Birley, Rifat Ozbek, Vivien Greenock and Bruce Cavell.
Whenever she can, she finds the time to paint on a smaller scale. This is where she can explore what is important to her, where her heart is open and finds its home.

Elizabeth Porter is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London & the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University.

Nostalgia Brown Paper Bag series by Lojithan Ram

Lojithan Ram (Ramanathan Parilojithan, b. 1993 ) is a multidisciplinary artist working with photography, archives, and experimental image-making to explore migration, displacement, memory, and non-belonging. He holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Jaffna (2018) and served as curator at the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka in 2024.

He is the founder of Mount Studio and Analogue Film Lab in Colombo, a space dedicated to artistic practice, community learning, and the revival of analogue photography. His practice is also rooted in collaborative and archival initiatives, including the Batticaloa Photo-History Archive and the We Are From Here Collective.

Lojithan has exhibited locally and internationally at the Chennai Photo Biennale, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Dhaka Art Summit, Saskia Fernando Gallery, Barefoot Gallery Colombo, Colomboscope, and in Berlin. He received the Prince Claus Seed Fund Award (2023) and A4A Production Fund (2022), and is currently an artist-in-residence at Cité internationale des arts, Paris.

Exhibition views from Memories of Yaalpanam by Catharina Danial

Memories of Yaalpanam came to a close last Saturday. This exhibition reflected on the beauty, resilience, and cultural richness of Jaffna through personal recollections of life. Through landscapes, archival imagery, and layered mixed media works, it revisited fading memories of homes, traditions, and everyday life that continue to hold deep emotional significance. Employing collage, handcrafted paper, transparent sheets, and gold leaf, Catharina Danial reconstructed Yaalpanam as both memory and living archive - a space shaped by nostalgia, loss, and endurance. The exhibition invited viewers to reflect on the fragility of memory and the enduring spirit of a place carried across generations.

Catharina Danial (b. 1991) is a visual artist from Jaffna, Sri Lanka and holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Jaffna. Her identity and practice are deeply shaped by her childhood in 90s Jaffna, a period she describes as “relatively simple” despite the backdrop of conflict. For Catharina, art functions as a potent medium to explore memory, identity, and cultural inheritance. Her work captures the unique charm of the Jaffna peninsula - its distinctive architecture, traditions, cuisine, rituals, and festivals. Having lived through both war and post-war Jaffna, she draws from nostalgic recollections of everyday life and traditional objects used by her mother and grandmother. Catharina worked as an artist and creative designer at Kolam Jaffna from 2017 - 2019 and has been practicing as a full-time artist since 2019. She has exhibited widely since 2018 and participated in several group shows and festivals before her solo show ‘Memories in Nostalgia’ at Curado Art Space in 2024.

The series “faded memories'' is deeply intertwined with Catharina’s personal experiences and connections to her homeland. Through these works she seeks to translate her memories and emotions, referring to the diminished vividness and clarity of recollections from her childhood over time. She focuses on buildings and homes ravaged by war and neglect, still retaining their inherent beauty and historical significance. By documenting these structures, she aims to preserve the history and identity of her homeland for future generations.

Golden Memories I - III
Medium: Collage, pen, coloured pencil, gold leaf on brown board

'Sankapadalai' is a visual exploration of Jaffna's vanishing cultural heritage, centred around the traditional entrance gate structures of old Jaffna houses from Catharina’s childhood. These gateways, known as 'padalai', were more than points of entry; they functioned as communal spaces where neighbours gathered, socialised, and found respite from the tropical heat. Her practice seeks to document and honour the memory of these gateways as a distinctive element of Jaffna's cultural identity, reflecting both the region's history and its people. Often adorned with earthenware pots and vessels, the 'sankapadalai' embodied hospitality and community spirit. While many have disappeared due to war and rapid modernisation, fragments continue to endure as quiet witnesses to a bygone era.
