MARE NOSTRUM is an ambitious project that brings together the art of Andrea Roggi and some of Liguria’s most extraordinary locations: Portofino, Genoa and Alassio. Three unique cities at the heart of a major exhibition journey celebrating the power of contemporary art and the beauty of the region.

Liguria is a region with an exceptional history. For centuries, it has been a land of encounters, exchange, and great traditions. Within this context, Andrea Roggi’s artistic research takes on an even deeper significance, engaging with the landscape and exploring universal values such as growth, knowledge, community and renewal.

From the timeless elegance of Portofino to the monumental spaces of Genoa and the seafront of Alassio, the sculptures become naturally integrated into settings of extraordinary historical and scenic value. In Alassio, the artist also symbolically becomes part of the city’s history with a dedicated ceramic tile on the celebrated Muretto di Alassio, an honour traditionally bestowed upon personalities who have left their mark on the cultural landscape.

For many years, Galleria Ravagnan has developed major public art projects because we believe that contemporary sculpture should be experienced by people – in squares, along streets and within the public spaces that shape the identity of a place. Each initiative represents an opportunity to create new connections between art, people and places, making sculpture part of everyday life while contributing to the enhancement of the local cultural heritage.

Andrea Crespi in Madrid 🇪🇸

The Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid presents Metamorfosis. Las transformaciones de la belleza, a solo exhibition by ANDREA CRESPI , curated by Clelia Patella, on view until August 29, 2026.

Through painting, sculpture, installation, and digital processes, Crespi explores the transformation of beauty in the contemporary era, creating a dialogue between classical heritage and contemporary visual languages, memory and innovation, the physical and the digital.

For the exhibition, the artist has also created a large-scale work inspired by Venus and Mars, establishing a connection with the celebrated sculptural group housed at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

Giovanni Motta’s artistic research unfolds in a deeply inner space, where memory and emotion become the starting point for exploration and storytelling. His work transforms personal experience into a universal reflection, creating a language capable of speaking across generations and cultures.

Over the years, he has developed an immediately recognizable poetic universe in which painting, sculpture, and digital experimentation converge to create an authentic and distinctive visual language. At the heart of his work is Jonny Boy, the character through whom the artist explores one of the most profound and universal themes: the inner child.

Inspired by the world of manga and Japanese animation, Jonny Boy is much more than a recurring figure. He embodies the authentic and imaginative part that each of us carries within and that, over time, we gradually tend to conceal. Giovanni Motta has often described this character as a way of exploring emotions, fears, desires, and memories, transforming a personal experience into a shared reflection.

With “Palazzo Ducale”, Giorgio Tentolini offers a contemporary reinterpretation of one of Venice’s most iconic landmarks.

Created through his distinctive hand-cut layered metal mesh, the artwork transforms the building into a suspended image that continuously shifts with the viewer’s perspective. Up close, the material, gesture, and intricate structure come into focus; from a distance, the façade of the Doge’s Palace gradually re-emerges with remarkable clarity.

James Colomina returns to Venice with a new urban installation of powerful symbolic impact. In the Rio di San Felice, in the heart of Cannaregio, the French street artist from Toulouse has installed NOTHING SERIOUS, a red resin sculpture depicting a child adrift, clinging to a life buoy with a teddy bear by their side.

The title, NOTHING SERIOUS, is deliberately provocative. “It’s an expression we often use to downplay a situation”, explains James Colomina, “as if the most obvious emergencies always end up becoming someone else’s problem”.

Installed directly on the water, the work invites viewers to reflect on the vulnerability of our present and on the way we choose to look at what is happening around us. Venice thus becomes the ideal setting for a reflection on the major issues of our time. “I’m not trying to provide answers”, the artist adds. “I’m simply trying to create an image open enough for everyone to project their own interpretation”.

For James Colomina, this marks a return to Venice. In 2023, he installed RED VIRGIN, a red Madonna wearing a diving mask and snorkel, a work created to raise awareness of climate change and rising sea levels.

Andrea Roggi’s art has become a permanent part of the City of Amalfi’s public heritage.

Following the great success of the Lĕvĭtās exhibition in 2024, Koi No Yokan, Andrea Roggi’s monumental bronze sculpture, has officially entered the permanent collection of the City of Amalfi.

Originally unveiled during the exhibition and remaining on display along the seafront, the sculpture has now been acquired by the Municipal Administration, securing its permanent home in the heart of the city.
