We are pleased to contribute to “De Sanguine”, exhibition curated by Gabriele Tinti at BKV Fine Art in Milan.

🩸For this occasion, Berardi Galleria d’Arte has loaned Mario Segantini’s Portrait of William Ritter (1903).

This rare landmark in the artist’s production showcases a distinct language that moved beyond his father Giovanni’s Divisionism toward Secessionist decorativeness.

🏹Ritter is depicted as Saint Sebastian against the landscape of Monruz, his body pierced by arrows while sinuous streams of blood and gold flow from his wounds.

Drawing upon the ho******ic iconography of Saint Sebastian, the work fuses descriptive realism with Secessionist symbolism - capturing a bound, tormented body with an ecstatic gaze and flowers held in hand to evoke a powerful dialogue between martyrdom, beauty, and spiritual transcendence.
