"In-Motion" explores new directions in Marco Petrus’s recent work through a reflection on movement as a perceptual and spatial experience. The exhibition unfolds through oscillating movements, between horizontality and verticality, immersion and distance, acceleration and suspension, figuration and abstraction, which reflect the way Petrus traverses contemporary images, architectures, and systems of vision. This approach to the exhibition does not aim to reconstruct a linear sequence of development, but rather to highlight returns, overlaps, and resonances within the artist’s practice. - Sharon Hecker

🎈 Happy Birthday to Braco Dimitrijević! He was one of the first artists to explore conceptual art in the 1970s, challenging traditional conventions and opening up new horizons of expression.

Around the mid-1970s, the artist experienced his first significant artistic transformation by incorporating original paintings borrowed from museum collections into his installations. Thus came about the project Triptychos Post Historicus, held in Museums such as the Tate Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, to name but a few. In this project, artworks merge and coexist with everyday objects.
The artist explores themes such as identity, memory, history, and the relationship between the individual and the collective. He often uses iconic images and symbols to communicate his messages, referencing works of art, historical figures and cultural archetypes. His work invites viewers to reflect on their own position in the historical and social context.

M77 News: MING SMITH, WANDERING LIGHT curated by Daisy Desrosiers, from July 6, 2026 at Les Rencontres d’Arles.

Wandering Light offers an expanded view of Ming Smith’s practice, situating her work within a broader photographic, art-historical, and geographic horizon. Bringing together images spanning several decades, the exhibition positions Smith not only as a pivotal figure in American photography, but as an artist whose vision was shaped through sustained encounters with Europe—its cities, museums, and long photographic traditions—and through an ongoing, exploratory engagement with the medium itself.

M77 News: "Maria Lai. To Be Is to Weave", curated by Mónica Amor and Carlos Basualdo, in collaboration with Archive and Fondazione Maria Lai at the Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee – museo Madre in Naples from June 25, 2026

Dedicated to one of the most unique artistic careers in postwar Italy, the exhibition spans over six decades, tracing the material, formal, and conceptual transformations through which the artist redefined the relationship between art, language, memory, and collective experience.
The exhibition unfolds along a path that is both chronological and thematic, highlighting Lai’s constant experimentation with assemblage, textiles, sewing, collage, and orality, while situating her work within broader debates on abstraction, materiality, feminism, and the crisis of the artistic object in postwar Italy.

Already known for reworking the urban landscape through geometric and synthetic forms, focusing on architecture and the formal essence of the metropolitan fabric, Petrus uses these works to explore how images are perceived today, in a condition suspended between physical space and digital logic.

M77 Select: Agostino Iacurci
Agostino Iacurci (b.1986) studied Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
In his practice, he employs various media including painting, mural, sculpture, drawing, and installation. Often driven by a site-specific attitude, Iacurci collects heterogeneous materials, reworking and manipulating them. He does this to generate images and visions in which he freely narrates and associates cultural history, personal memories, literary references, and vernacular tales.

We are happy to share some of the installation views of MARCO PETRUS: IN-MOTION, the artist’s first solo exhibition at the gallery.

Featuring around seventy previously unseen works, the show draws inspiration from the generative motion—both architectural and human—depicted in Bambina che corre sul balcone by Giacomo Balla (1912, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Milan).
The exhibition, curated by Sharon Hecker, takes its cue from the celebrated Futurist painting to develop a series of reflections that, through progressive variations, lead the composition toward an increasingly abstract synthesis of sequences of colorful, rhythmic, and sinuous lines.

M77 Viewing Room- Emilio Isgrò: The Voice of Naples
The exhibition Canto Napoli, presented in Naples, offers a powerful and poetic dialogue between Isgrò’s practice and the cultural, historical, and symbolic identity of the city. Naples, with its layered narratives, contradictions, and vitality, becomes both subject and medium within the artist’s work.
By removing, he reveals; by concealing, he exposes. In the context of Naples — a city that has always negotiated between excess and absence, noise and silence—this artistic language finds a particularly resonant and compelling form.
