M77 Select: Antonio Marras
Antonio Marras - (Alghero, 1961). Since his first collection in 1987, Antonio Marras has stood out for his experimentation, his ability to “feel” the different realities that surround him, his commingling with art, music, dance, theater and cinema. Fashion is for him the link between all other languages; a new alphabet that, in his own way, he uses to dialogue with the world.
Among the key elements of Marras’s style are: a meticulous attention to craftsmanship, Sardinia as a starting point of inspiration, and the “ligazzio rubio,” which in Sardinian means the red thread and which has become a hallmark of his style, a true “fil rouge.”

Maria Lai is part of “Identità oltre confine”, the exhibition bringing a selection of works from the Collezione Farnesina to Tokyo for the first time.

Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Collezione Farnesina, the exhibition brings together around thirty works by Italian artists, exploring ideas of identity, memory, landscape and belonging.
On view at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo through October 22, the exhibition is curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini.
Maria Lai’s work is presented in Radici di resistenza, a section exploring the body and language as forms of resistance and emancipation.

William Klein didn’t just photograph New York. He went straight into it.
After Milan, William Klein returned to NY, where Alexander Liberman, then art director at Vogue, invited him to work in fashion. With his camera around his neck, Klein began wandering the streets, turning New York into the subject of his first visual diary.

His photographs are visceral and intensely physical. He approached the city at close range, immersing himself in its streets, people and rhythms. His presence is felt in every image: the camera moves with him, often almost aggressively, breaking the distance between photographer and subject.
What began as a one-off project would become a defining way of looking at cities. As Klein travelled, he realised that this visceral approach was his own and began applying it to other urban visual diaries.

One of the most innovative photographers of the 20th century, William Klein transformed the way cities could be photographed. Rather than observing from a distance, he immersed himself in the scene, creating fast, physical and ironic images that seem to capture reality as it unfolds.

Curated by Alessandra Mauro, My Cities traces Klein’s relationship with the cities that shaped his life and practice, marking the centenary of his birth and the 2026–2027 bicentenary of the invention of photography.

Milan marked a turning point in William Klein’s artistic journey and his first encounter with photography.

After arriving from Paris, Klein entered Milan’s vibrant artistic and intellectual circles, exhibiting his abstract paintings at the Piccolo Teatro, invited by Giorgio Strehler, and later at the historic Galleria Il Milione.
It was through his collaboration with architect Angelo Mangiarotti that Klein began photographing his own painted panels, searching for a way to bring movement into the still image. This marked the beginning of his exploration of photography, where the language of his abstract painting would continue to shape his work.

For My Cities, we present a selection of his paintings alongside photographic documentation of other works.

Today, Nino Migliori turns 100.
For over 80 years, Nino has explored the power of vision, constantly pushing photography beyond documentation through experimentation, curiosity and an ever-renewed way of looking.

For us at M77, celebrating this milestone is also a celebration of the special bond we have built with Nino over the years — a relationship made of trust, friendship, conversations and a shared passion for his work.
We are happy to share this photograph with Nino and the people who have been part of this journey.

Alessandro Mendini is part of "The Architect & The Housewife: Cleaning the House, Building the Future" at Groninger Museum from September 19, 2026.

Curated by Roos Gortzak and Clare Molloy, the title of this exhibition is taken from artist Frances Stark’s 1999 publication, ‘The Architect & The Housewife’, in which she introduces the characters of ‘the architect’ and ‘the housewife’ to explore power dynamics in art and life. Over a quarter of a century later, Frances Stark’s concerns are still strikingly relevant. For, amid the big concerns of our age, the dinner still has to be cooked and the laundry still needs to be done.

The exhibition will be on view until May 9, 2027.
