Starting from the end of the Nineties, the Gallery knew how to cut out its own space and become the reference point to lovers of historical design as well as to people following the evolution of contemporary design, above all within that more learned, poetic and visionary area shifting between production and contemporary art. Nina Yashar, the gallery founder, works with her sister Nilu and a team

of five people. Nilufar took part in several editions of Pavillon des Arts et du Design in Paris and is always present at Design Miami/Basel. Nilufar has its own small manifesto, composed of three words: Discovering, Crossing, Creating. Discovering Novecento is the century of design, a source of extraordinary stories and objects which will be dealt with again for a long time, waiting just for the right time to come out of the oblivion. According to Nilufar's vision, modern antique dealing is an old definition. It is necessary to shift towards a less vague word, searching for names, projects, schools, manufactures, countries making history and deserving to be proposed again. Crossing The history of taste is a never-ending exercise of decomposition and re-composition, just like a kaleidoscope... This continuous joining together of pieces and traditions houses an open eye, heedless of labels, able to cross fences created by time, geography and cultural matrixes, aware that assonances and contrasts can be two sides of the same coin. This is the idea of Crossings, the name of two successful exhibitions Nilufar held in 1999 and 2000, a true invitation to build new visions of the world, being far more personal and freer. Creating Milan is an interesting lab and a privileged point to observe the euphoric and restless scene of design. Nilufar gives life to projects, editions, site-specific shows and publications, working both with great masters and emerging authors. Nilufar is operating in the scouting of new talents. Creating means bringing about occasions, sparkles. It means also obtaining new spaces and filling them with value for the future. Here in Italy we know how to do it: Renaissance was born here!

The itinerary through Nilufar Grand Hotel culminates in the Penthouse Suite, where the rituals of hospitality take on a distinctly eclectic character. Conceived as a sequence of spaces for rest, gathering, and intimacy, the suite brings contemporary works, vintage design, and Nilufar Edition into a layered domestic landscape.

Color and material give each area its own register. Gal Gaon’s (Gal Gaon Studio) sculptural Torii desk is paired with Andrea Mancuso’s (Andrea Mancuso) Unfold chairs, whose bentwood forms introduce lightness and movement. Bethan Laura Wood’s (Bethan Laura Wood) Guava mirror turns reflection into ornament, Color and material give each area its own register. Gal Gaon’s sculptural Torii desk is paired with Andrea Mancuso’s Unfold chairs, whose bentwood forms introduce lightness and movement. On view at Nilufar Grand Hotel, Robinson Ferreux Maeght’s () lighting pieces bring together material experimentation, craftsmanship and atmospheric light within the Penthouse Suite.

The Transatlantique Estate lamp expresses a refined vision of craftsmanship, evoking the golden age of ocean liners where design embodied both grandeur and precision. Its sculptural brass base supports a luminous porcelain diffuser, an object born from a rare convergence of artisanal expertise. Each curve carries the memory of hands, kilns, and time, transforming light into a soft, luminous presence.

The experimental floor-ceiling lamp Yoko Poledance references postwar Italian design infused with the intimacy of Japanese whisky bars. Its resin lampshade slides along a vertical brass rod, allowing the light to shift in height and perception. Dense and textural, the mass-tinted resin filters the light into a warm amber glow, while the moving shade continuously redefines the lamp’s presence in space, creating a quiet interplay between material, movement and atmosphere.

Executed in parallel with the sculptural furniture pieces of his Still Life collection, these drawings on paper by Etienne Marc (Etienne Marian Marc) represent an in-depth exploration of the natural world.

Floral structures and Art Deco decorativism converge in a series of precise yet expressive studies, revealing both the designer’s visual references and his command of draftsmanship. Botanical forms are observed not only for their natural construction, but also for the cultural meanings they carry: from myth and symbolism to regional identity.

These drawings offer an intimate insight into the research behind Still Life, translating the structure and evocative power of plants into the sculptural language of the collection.

A new selection of seating pieces by Nilufar Edition explores softness, proportion and the many ways the body inhabits space.

Designed by Andrea Sanguineti (Andrea Sanguineti), Nuage takes shape from the idea of the body at rest, with cloud-like volumes that gently guide posture and atmosphere. Alongside it, Lazy Bean armchair introduces softened, organic contours that invite a more relaxed and intentional way of sitting, while the Ninetta bench pays homage to Nina Yashar () through a refined form inspired by Nilufar’s imagery and Art Deco interiors.

Deeply rooted in Yashar’s expert vision and unmistakable taste, Nilufar Edition brings together contemporary creativity, Italian craftsmanship and made-to-order production, with a focus on detail, materiality, customisation and innovation.

For Nilufar Grand Hotel, Allegra Hicks (Allegra Hicks) composes a suite that gathers the many threads of her multifaceted design vocabulary, bringing together the debut of Trame di Confine with earlier works. Conceived around the notion of the perimeter as a place of encounter between inside and out, intimacy and openness, the new collection unfolds through a series of softly upholstered forms embraced by undulating cast-bronze frames that echo the rhythm of crochet.

Here, recurring motifs, including Hicks’ signature translation of a traditionally feminine craft into bronze, are given renewed sculptural expression, while painterly surfaces and tactile contrasts lend the interior a layered, immersive quality, dissolving the boundaries between object and artwork.

A creature of quiet charm, Gabriella Crespi’s Frog table lamp reflects the designer’s poetic dialogue with nature, craftsmanship and sculptural form.

Introduced in 1973, the lamp belongs to the collection of hand-carved wooden sculptures created by Crespi between 1970 and 1979, a series largely inspired by the natural world. Presented in three different sizes, Frog combines a carved wooden body with a rattan and woven straw shade, transforming a functional object into a delicate presence within the interior.

Artist, designer and entrepreneur, Gabriella Crespi shaped a singular language where design meets abstraction, material sensitivity and artisanal mastery. From her iconic collections of the 1960s to her later explorations in rattan, brass, plexiglass and wood, her work continues to embody a rare balance between elegance, spirituality and invention.

Gabriella Crespi’s work holds a special place in Nilufar’s history and vision. Over the years, Nina Yashar has built a deep relationship with the designer’s legacy, becoming one of her most devoted collectors and curating one of Italy’s most extensive collections of Crespi’s works.

Nilufar Edition is a space for design in transformation: all the pieces are crafted in Italy and shaped by international voices.

With Toro Beetle, Bethan Laura Wood (Bethan Laura Wood) turns the lounge chair into a vivid creature of lines, curves and colour. Inspired by the world of entomology, the piece recalls the delicate anatomy of insects through its metal structure, sinuous back legs and contrasting armrest.
Sharp, graphic elements meet the softness of the upholstered seat, creating a tension between precision and playfulness, structure and imagination.

Here, Toro Beetle appears in dialogue with Bethan Laura Wood’s Meisen Cabinet, crafted in ALPI wood veneer, wood, brass and cellulose acetate. Developed from her fascination with Meisen kimonos, Ikat tapestries, East Asian cabinets and insect anatomy, the cabinet expands the scene into a richly ornamental landscape.

A rare vintage mirror designed by Carlo Bugatti around 1902, this piece reflects the unmistakable language of one of the most distinctive voices of the fin de siècle.

Executed in parchment-covered wood, partially painted and enriched with embossed copper, repoussé brass and mother-of-pearl inlaid decorations, the mirror brings together Bugatti’s radical material vocabulary and ornamental precision.

Its mirrored surface is framed by birch structural elements, while the integrated drawer extends the object beyond pure function, transforming it into a richly composed decorative statement.

At once precious, eccentric and visionary, the piece reveals Bugatti’s ability to merge craftsmanship, exotic references and architectural form into a singular object of enduring decorative power.

Nilufar Grand Hotel Vista Mare unfolds at Galerie56 in New York as the next chapter of Nilufar’s evolving exploration of hospitality as a curatorial language. Conceived by Nina Yashar () together with Lee F. Mindel (Lee F. Mindel), FAIA, the exhibition further develops a collaboration rooted in a shared sensibility towards art, architecture and collectible design.

Drawing on the suspended beauty of Luchino Visconti’s Death in Venice, vintage masterpieces and contemporary works compose an immersive cinematic landscape shaped by light, memory and the quiet melancholy of time.
