You are warmly invited to the opening of ON PAPER, our summer group exhibition at Longtermhandstand.

Bringing together 25 artists, the exhibition celebrates the extraordinary possibilities of drawing and works on paper, placing internationally acclaimed names alongside leading figures of Hungarian contemporary art and an emerging generation of artists.

From intimate gestures to obsessive detail, experimentation to storytelling, ON PAPER looks at drawing not simply as preparation, but as a medium in its own right.

Developed through years of friendship and an ongoing dialogue between Budapest and New York, the exhibition reflects on the solitary rhythms of artistic life and the countless hours of focused attention behind each drawing. After the studio, the reservation is often table for one.

This August, we are ON PAPER.

Longtermhandstand is pleased to present ON PAPER, our big summer group exhibition bringing together works on paper by 25 artists, with a special focus on drawing in all its forms: immediate, obsessive, intimate, experimental, precise, messy, and everything in between.

From quick gestures to meticulously constructed worlds, ON PAPER celebrates paper as one of the most direct and endlessly surprising spaces for artistic thinking.

MONDAY AT THE GALLERY

Join us on Monday, August 3, from 5–8 PM as we open Table for One, an intimate cabinet exhibition featuring new drawings by Áron Lőrincz and Ian Fergusson (Hydeon), while celebrating the finissage of OMARA – Mara Oláh.

Developed through years of friendship and an ongoing dialogue between Budapest and New York, Table for One brings together two distinct drawing practices rooted in patience, precision, and the productive solitude of the studio.

The exhibition also marks Hydeon’s first exhibition in Budapest, and we are delighted that the artist will be present at the opening.

At the same time, we invite you to join us for the closing celebration of OMARA Mara Oláh, honoring one of the most distinctive and uncompromising figures of contemporary art.

A glimpse into Gábor Pintér’s studio and a new painting, still untitled.

Pintér’s works unfold like visual puzzles, where fragmented figures, interiors, and painterly gestures collide to create scenes that feel both familiar and uncanny. Balancing realism with abstraction, his compositions resist fixed narratives, inviting viewers to construct their own associations and meanings.

This latest canvas continues his exploration of perception and the ways images shape our understanding of the world, revealing new details the longer you look.

𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗔 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡’𝗧 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗧. 𝗦𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗘𝗗 𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘.

OMARA (Mara Oláh) blurred the boundaries between art and life. Every appearance, every outfit, every gesture became part of a living artwork. She instinctively transformed everyday necessity into a powerful aesthetic statement, long before the fashion world celebrated the beauty of the improvised and the imperfect.

Whether wrapping a towel around her head on the way to an exhibition, dressing “like Lollobrigida” to meet distinguished guests, or proudly portraying herself on her way to the Venice Biennale “in nothing but dress fabric,” OMARA understood self representation as an act of freedom. She refused to fit into the roles assigned to her. Instead, she continuously reinvented herself on her own terms.

The same spirit runs through her paintings. They are uncompromising, autobiographical, humorous, tragic, and deeply human. Her home, her family, her dreams, her struggles, and her triumphs all became part of an extraordinary visual universe where painting was never separate from life.

As curator Péter Bencze notes, OMARA offered a performative experience in every moment of her existence. Today, her works continue to do the same.

We are delighted to invite you to the opening of Table for One, an intimate cabinet exhibition at Longtermhandstand bringing together new drawings by Áron Lőrincz and Ian Fergusson (Hydeon).

Developed through years of friendship and an ongoing dialogue between Budapest and New York, the exhibition reflects on the solitary rhythms of artistic life. While the routines of artists, from their working hours to eating habits and social rituals, may appear unconventional, they often stem from the sustained concentration required to create. These meticulously crafted drawings are the result of countless hours of focused attention, where solitude becomes a condition for imagination. After the studio, the reservation is often table for one.

Áron Lőrincz’s meticulous graphite drawings revolve around recurring figures of pirates, drifters, and outsiders, characters that embody resistance to convention and fixed systems. Rendered with remarkable precision and obsessive attention to detail, his works explore nonconformity not through grand gestures but through quiet, persistent acts of imagination, where fiction becomes a space for freedom.

Working under the name Hydeon, Ian Fergusson constructs meticulously rendered drawings that blur the boundaries between architecture, memory, and imagination. His immersive compositions transform everyday spaces into enigmatic psychological landscapes, rich in atmosphere and detail.

The exhibition also marks Hydeon’s first exhibition in Budapest, and we are delighted that the artist will be present at the opening.

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗔 𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦?

OMARA didn’t always write on her paintings. The turning point came after a deeply painful misunderstanding.

At an exhibition in Szeged, a curator gave the wrong title to one of her paintings. The work depicted a deeply personal memory: after one of her sibling’s funeral, during the gathering that followed, OMARA lost her glass eye while dancing and searched for it on all fours in the grass. Instead, the painting was presented under the title Mara Resting in the Grass.

When she saw it, OMARA later said she went into “nervous shock.” A painting about grief, memory, and a lived experience had been stripped of its truth.

She immediately wrote directly onto the painting what it was really about.

From that day on, she made herself a promise: every painting would carry her own words. She wanted to ensure that no one could reinterpret her stories or speak in her place. Her handwritten texts became an inseparable part of her artistic language, preserving her truth exactly as she wanted it to be told.

We’re delighted to share that Péter Gallov’s solo exhibition Burning Time is now on view at Kastner Kommunity’s Art Korner.

One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Hungarian drawing, Gallov constructs meticulously detailed graphite works where observation, imagination, and image-making converge. For Burning Time, he presents an immersive drawing installation that unfolds as an ever-expanding private mythology, inhabited by dreams, fantasies, and fever visions. Layer by layer, his dense visual narratives invite viewers into an intensely personal universe where every detail becomes part of a larger story.

It was a pleasure to celebrate Zsolt Petrányi’s new book Do I Understand It or Not? Eight Questions About Contemporary Art together with Luca Petrányi, followed by a generous and inspiring conversation about contemporary art, exhibitions, and the joy of looking.

And special thanks to Coltrane Legacy for filling the gallery with an incredible atmosphere and to everyone who made the evening such a memorable gathering.
