Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery Established in 1991, Kwai Fung Hin has developed into a cultural force of repute through its history

Established in 1991, Kwai Fung Hin has developed into a cultural force of repute in Hong Kong through its long and distinguished history of advancing artistic exchange between the East and West. With a dynamic network consisting of a highly-regarded art gallery, consultancy, publishing house, lithograph publisher and cultural foundation, over three decades we have launched over 160 gallery exhibit

ions, 13 institutional exhibitions, 52 catalogues and monographs, and 133 series of lithographs, earning a reputation for our particular expertise in 20th century modern art and Asian contemporary art. We have worked with and supported a dynamic roster of over one hundred artists, including Zao Wou-Ki, Lalan, Li Huayi, Pan Gongkai and Ai Xuan, whose extensive cultural experiences and global perspectives bridge the West and the East in fresh and remarkable ways. These artists have brought new dimensions to the canon of art history with their radical and uncompromising visions, overturning centuries-old traditions and ushering in a new era of artistic development. Now in our fourth decade, we continue in our eorts:
- to promote East-West artistic dialogue;
- to support our artists and share their visionary work with audiences around the world through institutional collaborations and innovative cultural initiatives; and
- to devote ourselves to developing educational opportunities and promoting dialogue within the artistic community in the city of Hong Kong and beyond.

โญ๏ธEgyptian artist Ibrahim Khatab creates rich, layered imagery that wovenly integrates Arabic calligraphy with human figures, flora, and fauna drawn from Egyptian and ancient Near Eastern mythology. His canvases are built from newspapers and street postersโ€”materials that carry the residue of daily lifeโ€”which he vigorously sands and then coats with up to seven layers of paint. This intensive process produces multilayered textures that blur the boundary between the painterly, the sculptural and the literal, transforming the surface into a tactile evocation of accumulated time and memory.

๐ŸŽThe horseโ€”a traditional Arab symbol of speed, power, royalty, and the sacredโ€”appears as a recurring motif throughout his work. In Khatabโ€™s hands, the horse becomes both a mythic presence and a living presence: its form emerges from the layered strata, sometimes partially revealed, sometimes fully animated, as if it has traveled through the canvas itself. The animalโ€™s power resonates with the strength of the layered surface, creating a visual dialogue between ancient symbolism and contemporary materiality.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌBorn in Cairo in 1984, Ibrahim Khatab began his artistic career at twelve as a street sign painter. These early urban visual experiences, combined with his deep study of Arabic calligraphy, shaped a distinct visual language that seamlessly merges calligraphy, line, and imagery.

๐ŸŽThe horse has long been a core motif in Guoโ€™s practice, earning him international acclaim. For him, it embodies both the Pioneer Spirit of the Courier Horse and a deep reservoir of collective cultural memory. In earlier works, the horse acted as a mirror for questions of identity, migration, and self-projection; in recent years, it has grown increasingly abstract-signaling a shift toward structural and formal exploration.

His recent work โ€œDanglu - Condensed Forceโ€ (2026) takes inspiration from an ancient horse-head ornament. Its form hovers between a horsetail and the features of eagles watching. The horse belongs to the ground, the eagle to the sky. Their shifting presences gives the work a sense of movement between states. Energy here is subtle, inward-focused, and charged with latent movement.

In the sculpture โ€œSymbiotic Bodyโ€ (2026), Guo examines the relationship between two figures joined by a single pair of legs. Rather than separating them, he binds their structures in mutual dependence, each sustaining the other while preserving its own distinct presence. The composition conveys stability, yet sustains an equilibrium between reliance and autonomy.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธIn Ziad Dalloulโ€™s paintings, everything is alive.

โ›ฐ๏ธโ€The Whisper of Silkโ€ layers translucent washes of turquoise, lilac, peach, and green into an atmosphere both intimate and uncanny. Familiar objects displaced into wilderness dissolve the boundary between interior and landscape. Presence lingers in absence: a chair awaiting its occupant, fabric catching light.

๐Ÿ’ญโ€The world Ziad Dalloulโ€™s art brings into being is a third placeโ€”neither real nor imaginary, but born of grafting the two. Here, where the extension of the possible reigns, a landscape-table would not surprise us.โ€ โ€” Pierre Wat

๐Ÿ”ŽThis Monday, we welcomed Paris-based sculptor Guo Chengdong for an inspiring artist talk at the gallery. Guo guided us through his current exhibition, sharing how his practice evolved from early training in figurative sculpture and jade carving in China to a sculptural language of form that moves beyond Western minimalist austerity. Rooted in philosophic reflections on humanity, society, and nature, his sculptures carry a rich narrative and quiet spiritual resonance.

๐Ÿ’ญHe also spoke about his creative journeyโ€”from his formative years in France to the personal experiences that have shaped his vision. His thoughts on perseverance, growth, and key turning points invited a deeper appreciation of the stories behind his work.

โญ๏ธ A Ride in Fantasies, presented as part of the French May Arts Festival, is now on view at the gallery. We warmly invite you to experience Guo Chengdongโ€™s remarkable sculptures in person.
