Stoneware Sculptures (Herd of 111 Ceramic Horses). 2012, 2024–2026

The mythical mother horse "Innocence" (2012) leads her herd through a mysterious galaxy. Born from Kafka's spirit of transformation, she wears a child's shoes, with wings and a horn, her playful gaze declaring: "I am what I am, and I am free." From her, 110 whimsical horses were born in 2024–2026.

Here, Innocence watches from a corner as the herd gallops across an ancient curved arena floating in the cosmos. Their hooves echo like dancing rhythms across the cosmic void. Each horse has a uniquely textured body conveying movement and playful spirit. Their legs are short—liberated from burdens.Wings unfold flying through the galaxy.

They echo Tang Dynasty ceramic horses, reflecting the ancient Longma spirit: dragon-horse energy of resilience and noble strength. Vibrant glazes dance across surfaces, liquid gold catching light like laughter.

Suspended among nebulae and starlight, the herd gallops freely, some soaring beyond into infinite space, becoming constellations of liberated souls. Solan invites us to reflect: freedom is both a personal journey and a joyful dream we chase together.

神話中的母馬「純真」（2012年創作）帶領她的馬群穿越神祕的銀河。她誕生於卡夫卡式的蛻變精神，腳穿童鞋，長著翅膀與獨角，調皮的眼神宣告著：「我就是我，而且我是自由的。」從她身上，誕生了110匹在2024至2026年間創作的奇想馬匹。

在這裡，「純真」從角落凝望，馬群奔騰於一座漂浮在宇宙中的古老弧形競技場。牠們的蹄聲如舞動的節奏在虛空中迴盪。每匹馬都有獨特的紋理身軀，傳達出動感與玩樂的精神。牠們的腿短——從負擔中解放出來。翅膀展開，飛翔於銀河之中。

牠們呼應了唐代陶瓷馬，體現了古老的龍馬精神：堅韌與高貴力量的龍馬之氣。鮮活的釉色在表面舞動，液態黃金如笑聲般捕捉光影。

懸浮於星雲與星光之間，馬群自由奔騰，有些馬匹更飛向無盡的太空，成為解放靈魂的星座。索蘭邀請我們反思：自由既是個人的旅程，也是我們共同追尋的喜悅夢想。

About Personal Structures
Personal Structures is the biennial contemporary art exhibition organised and hosted by the European Cultural Centre Italy in Venice. The 8th edition will run from 9 May until 22 November 2026 in parallel with La Biennale. In a society marked by fractures, displacement, and accelerated transformation, Personal Structures – Confluences emerges as a space for encounter. It is a place where artistic practices, cultures, and disciplines intersect, contaminate one another, and generate new possibilities for coexistence. In the group show, visual artists, photographers, sculptors, performers, universities, and artist collectives, both established and emerging, bring a multitude of perspectives to the historical venues of Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora, and Marinaressa Gardens.

Confluences
For its eighth edition, Personal Structures takes Confluences as its theme: it is a powerful metaphor to describe how people, cultures, and experiences can come together, influence one another, and give rise to fresh perspectives.
The exhibition is built on the idea that individual stories are never isolated, but part of a larger, ever-changing collective fabric. Through the works of artists, galleries, universities, and cultural institutions from across the world, Confluences becomes a space for dialogue, where diverse languages intersect and open the way to new possibilities of imagining both our present and our future.

Art, society, nature, and technology converge in a journey that invites reflection on how we can live together more consciously and sustainably. Personal Structures – Confluences is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to be carried by new ideas and to discover the richness of encounter.

The final setting of Galloping Dreamscape. 🐎✨

Artist Solan Chiu and curator Mariana Laurie, alongside the remarkable European Cultural Centre Team, apply the last touches to the installation. After careful hands and shared vision, all 111 ceramic horses are now galloping in a galaxy dreamscape, chasing freedom happily.

Solan and Mariana wish to express their deepest gratitude for the team's unwavering professionalism and artistic sensitivity — without their dedicated helping hands, this dreamscape would never have come to life.

Watching the herd settle into Palazzo Roma, piece by piece, has been a quiet joy. This is the moment an installation becomes an embrace.

Galloping Dreamscape has arrived at Palazzo Roma, Venice. 🐎✨

Day One – 27.4.2026 – unloading the final pieces with the incredible ECC team. So grateful for their care and energy.

Altogether there are 111 ceramic horses—some arrived earlier, but today the last of them touched Venetian soil.

What a joy to see the complete herd finally here.

🏛️✨ Installation in Progress – Venice

The herd is finding its home.

We are delighted to share that the installation of Solan Chiu's Galloping Dreamscape is now underway at Palazzo Mora, led by the dedicated team of the European Cultural Centre Italy.

Working according to Solan's installation design, the ECC team has begun positioning the 111 ceramic horses across a specially constructed curved platform inside the exhibition room – some galloping across the curved platform, others soaring mid-flight above. Watching this dreamscape take physical form within the historic Venetian palace is truly moving.

🙏 Our deepest gratitude to the ECC team for their professionalism, care, and commitment in bringing Solan's vision to life. The progress so far has been wonderful to witness.

Next steps: lighting and audio design – to transform the space into an immersive sensory journey of galloping rhythms and dreamlike radiance. 🎧💡

Solan Chiu's Galloping Dreamscape — 111 hand-sculpted ceramic horses — has departed Hong Kong and arrived safely in Venice.

Solan is thrilled to share that the herd will be presented as part of Personal Structures — Confluences 2026, the 8th edition organized by the European Cultural Centre Italy. The exhibition opens 9 May and runs through 22 November across Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora, and the Marinaressa Gardens.
