A big thank you to everyone who came along to our volunteer celebration events! We had a fabulous time, rain or shine!

It was very special to have volunteers from lots of different organisations gathering together to celebrate the incredible power of volunteering, both for the communities they serve and for themselves.

Councillor Wilcox gave a moving welcome “ ..today we celebrate you. We celebrate your generosity, your spirit and the difference you make every single day.”

Beatroute Radio provided great music and uplifting vibes, whilst Made with Many inspired us with creative art workshops.

It was so inspiring to hear stories about what volunteers do in the community and why they do it. Some people were new to volunteering, others have been doing it for years.
“… interacting with different people from the community is really rewarding. I didn’t realise it would be when I first got into it, but those interactions end up uplifting me. Some people call it volunteer work, but it doesn’t feel like work because it adds to my cup; it doesn’t empty it.”

“Just being able to help someone and doing something gives you a little bit of a buzz. In the end, you can go home and think, “I’ve done something...”

“Volunteering is a lovely sort of life, and people who volunteer often have something very similar: they are usually motivated and happy people.”

“It feels cathartic, great for the soul, and it can be good for your CV and job applications.”

A big shout out to Wellingborough Museum and The Green Patch for hosting us, giving tours of their wonderful spaces, providing games, planting and such a generous welcome. And to Lucy Hawes for taking us an idyllic walk along the Green Way from Rushden Lakes, it is fully accessible and well worth exploring.
This was the start of something new in North Northants and we hope to see you all next year!

COLLECTION | With England's first World Cup match happening today, we thought we'd show you a few footie items in our museum collection! ⚽

The objects in the image show a brief history of Wellingborough Town Football Club. The earliest item is the football on show, which dates to the 1940s, and is made of genuine leather.

The second item is the image of the players from the 1965-1966 season (you can take a guess why we chose this date to show here! 😉), when they won the United Counties League. All the player's names are written at the bottom - do you remember anyone here?

The youngest of the items is the official Wellingborough Town F.C programme from 1989/1990. Inside shows the names of all the players at the time, alongside all fixtures for the season. It cost just 30p - less than the price of a Freddo in 2026! 😮

Do you have any memorabilia or memories of the club? Let us know in the comments!

BEHIND THE SCENES | It's not always fun and games working in a museum!

Gretchen, our Museum Officer, spent today doing some much needed cleaning work in our ironmonger shopfront upstairs. The objects are incredibly delicate due to their age, so the utmost care has to be taken when handling them in such a way.

The objects are laid onto Tyvek - a lightweight, durable and breathable material that is resistant to water, abrasion and bacteria. They are then gently brushed to remove any dust, soot, or debris from the item.

Next time you're in the museum, make sure to check upstairs to admire Gretchen's hard work!

COLLECTION | These may look like ordinary rocks, but would you believe that these are some of the oldest artefacts in our collection?! 😮

We were delighted to welcome researchers specialising in Neolithic handaxes to the museum to view these special items.

They informed us that these prehistoric tools, whilst used in ancient Wellingborough, originate from the South Downs and Cumbria - opposite ends of the country! It tells us that during this very early period in human history, trade and travel was still very much prevalent in society.

As it's , we're proud to be hosting Aspire North Northants & Made With Many's event today to celebrate local volunteers within the community! 👏

With Victorian games, clay tile making, and plenty of refreshments, we're loving seeing volunteers from around Northamptonshire get the celebration they deserve 😌
