It is with great sadness that we learned today of the death of one of our longstanding and very active members, Nick Arnold.
Nick joined the Society following his retirement from Torquemeters of in Northampton over fifteen years ago. A highly talented engineer, he brought exceptional skill, patience, and ingenuity to countless projects across the site. Whether rebuilding a gearbox for one of our locomotives, restoring a lamp, or contributing many of the beautifully refurbished artefacts now displayed in the Goods Shed, Nick’s craftsmanship can be seen throughout the Station.
When the Society acquired the Goods Shed in 2018, Nick was among the very first volunteers to roll up his sleeves and begin clearing the site. Working from his home workshop in Overstone, and with the support of his wife Sue, he frequently fabricated bespoke solutions for projects across the Society. His engineering expertise and willingness to help made him an invaluable member of our community.
Nick was also widely travelled, often journeying abroad with Sue to visit railways and engineering attractions around the world. Even in recent years, when he faced significant health challenges, he continued to come down to Rushden whenever he was able, remaining a dedicated and much‑loved presence.
Nick was a gifted engineer, a generous volunteer, and an inspiration. His contribution to the Society is visible in every corner of the Station and Goods Shed, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Sue and the family at this difficult time.

The past 2 weeks have been very sad with the passing of 2 members and a friend of the Society.

Life member Rodney Mann passed way in late April. “Rodders” was well know in the bar regular customer for many years. He will be very much missed by his friends at the Station.

Graham Warren another long term member who was a very welcome volunteer at many of our events even when his mobility was compromised. He was always first on the list of volunteers for events and we are very grateful for his contribution to the Society.

Although not a member Glyn Evans was a friend of the Society in his role with St John Ambulance and later 3 Counties first aid services. He was often seen at our events in his role as a first aider and was always a supporter of RHTS and its activities.

As a Society we pass on our condolences to the friends and families of our friends and members who have passed away recently.
