The Light membership is ideal for those who attend the studio on a more casual basis. What brilliant beetles from today’s after school club with Jenniefarmerart! 👏

🪲🎨 Today at After School Art Club, at The Hayward Studio our artists (ages 8+) created beautiful beetle illustrations using collage, ink and salt.

Along the way, they explored colour washes, texture, pattern and drawing.

Creative activities like these support well being by encouraging mindfulness and focus, building confidence through achievement, and providing a positive outlet for self expression, and its just great fun!

Booking is open for the next club session and some spaces have already gone!

We are thrilled that talented sliversmith Charlotte Barnden-Skeen, founder of Perfect Touch Jewellery, is returning to the studio this summer for Hampshire Open Studios.

Charlotte creates handmade jewellery from high-quality, sustainable materials. Using traditional silversmithing techniques, each piece is thoughtfully crafted to stand out and sparkle. She runs local group workshops and also offers private gatherings, a unique and creative way to celebrate and mark any special occasion.

Charlotte also creates keepsake jewellery, and these treasured pieces are where her journey first began. Each piece is designed to preserve those special connections in a beautiful, lasting way.​

The name ‘Perfect Touch’ is a nod to those first designs, the special touch of pressing fingerprints into silver clay.

Coming up next month at the studio!

Join ’s graphite pencil drawing class and learn how to draw a photorealistic water splash! This workshop is designed for artists of all skill levels who wish to enhance their drawing techniques and explore the subtleties of light, shadow, and texture.

There is no expectation to draw freehand. An outline will be provided.

We are looking forward to welcoming Janet Hammerton Art back to the studio this summer for Hampshire Open Studios.

Janet is known for her paintings of natural landscapes, both real and imagined, with studies of wild and garden flowers.

Janet trained as a mature student in Printed Textile Design at Wi******er School of Art, graduating in 1990 and then retrained as a Museum Conservator, specialising in ceramics and glass conservation, graduating from West Dean College in 1996.

Working in Museums and Conservation, Janet continued to produce design work for textile design agents and galleries then changed direction and worked for 22 years as an Environmental Educator. This later career teaching children in the outdoor classroom sharpened the artist's interest in nature and changed the direction of the design work.

A keen desire to share the love of wild spaces and wild places led most recently to paintings of local landscapes and wild plants. Janet has taught children but also adults as co-tutor on the Art, Sound and Meditation course at the Sustainability Centre. The intention behind her art is to encourage others to value the natural world and find beauty within its bounty by sharing paintings of the images that inspire her.

Spending a couple of hours drawing offers a multitude of benefits that extend beyond mere artistic expression. So give some time to yourself and join Kevin Hayward Art at the studio working on a drawing of your choice. Drawing materials are available to use if required and Kevin will be there to offer advice and guidance.

Open Studio is open to anyone who has attended a taught drawing class at the studio. These sessions are free for Light and Dark members or £10 for non-members.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on the wonderful Jenniefarmerart, who will be joining us again at the studio this summer for Hampshire Open Studios.

Jennie’s artworks are playful and positive and show influences from nature in amongst multiple layers of vibrant colour and decorative detail. Her signature artworks combine paint, collage, and pattern to create radiant and memorable art works that give a gentle nod to life and gratitude.

Jennie’s favourite mediums to use are acrylic paints, spray paints and paint pens. Jennie says ‘You will always find my art desk surrounded with stencils, sponges, and brushes. Bright coloured paints, decorated papers and fine liners are very much part of my go to kit. I love playing with all of these things, layering pattern upon pattern and adding hand drawn imagery and words to create bespoke artwork and murals’.

Jennie also runs adult and young people’s art workshop at The Hayward Studio. She says, ‘I love that I get to inspire the next generation of budding artists and designers, it's so exciting to me’.
