As part of our Young Artist Residency Series, we had the pleasure of seeing Grace Armshaw use the gallery to experiment with beautiful displays of colour. 🎨 Listen to her discuss how she works, her approach to capturing feeling and the importance of music.
Grace created and exhibited large-scale multimedia paintings exploring time and mood during her time in the gallery.

Waiting Room, SVA, 21st July 2022
Waiting fills so much of our lives. We might be waiting for a performance to begin; or waiting for test results and diagnoses; sometimes we are waiting to perform, or simply waiting to be seen.
In July, we saw The Wating Room performed in our courtyard and gallery. It was a site-specific performance and a playful exploration of public space. Through the experience of waiting it asked, ‘When does performance become infectious, and what is the likelihood of it being transmitted to future performers?’
The production was particularly interested in what each of us brings to the waiting room. Relatedly, it thought about the best way of caring for the carers who run our medical spaces.

TODAY at 7pm and Thursday 21st at 1pm - join this performance installation where you will be stepping into a waiting room, entering a busy medical ward, and walking onto a stage surrounded by multiple screens.
The production is particularly interested in what each of us brings to the waiting room. Relatedly, it thinks about the best way of caring for the carers who run our medical spaces.
During the performance, audience members will take – and perform – a lateral flow test. This will be provided by the organisers.

Ann-Margreth Bohl: Artist Residency Site Festival 2022
Today we bring you the incredible sculptor, Ann-Margreth Bohl 🪨
Bohl works mainly in stone and metal, and categorises her work by Installation, Drawing, Lettering and Sculpture, however, her work also includes a variety of other media, from beeswax to sound.
During her time in the gallery, she explored natural forms and scale via drawing and sculpture.
Interested in light, shadow and the passing of time, Ann-Margreth’s recent work includes monumental sculptures which are time pieces, casting a complex and changing series of shadows; like modern Stonehenges, they’re precisely aligned with the sun as it moves across the sky.

"Duchenne Boys" is a candid and highly personal film about Duchenne boys and Persia. The story offers hope and inspiration to sufferers of a disease about which the director, Sohrab Kavir, knows only too much.
"Duchenne Boys" is the first feature documentary by Sohrab Kavir, a young British-Iranian filmmaker and the founder of "Duchenne Boys", an online platform. Sohrab grew up in a family where Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a male-specific muscle-wasting disease, took the lives of his three brothers. Riddled by guilt about his survival, Kavir felt compelled to try to improve the lives of Duchenne sufferers specially the ones in Persia.
On his journey of discovery Kavir meets Matin, a young British-Iranian with Duchenne disease, who plays power wheelchair-football in the English Powerchair League. Matin inspires Kavir to attempt the seemingly impossible - to create an Iranian football team from boys with Duchenne and organise an international match with Matin's team from England.
But this will be no ordinary Powerchair match. Two teams of wheelchair- bound players will face each other online - in the first ever international cyber football match. For Kavir it becomes a remarkable act of self redemption.
