We're delighted to let you know that the votes have been counted and our book club choice for October is Daniel Mason's The Winter Soldier - a spellbinding story of love and the tragedies of war. About the book:

However, with the rising costs of everything, we are asking for a contribution of £2 per person as a donation, only if you are comfortable and able to. We don't want money to be a barrier to accessing the Book Club community so this will be completely voluntary. Your support is always appreciated and thank everyone that buys the Book Club book and more.

This bookshop day, I got to visit an absolutely amazing independent bookshop in Naperville, Illinois a delightful suburb outside of Chicago. The team were so welcoming and Hadley the manager there took me on a tour, recounted the history of the bookshop and gave great recommendations. 💜 We purchased a couple of books (suitcase space!!) but if you are ever in the area, this is a must for book lovers! Oprah, Henry Winkler, John Green and so many more (you name the author, they’ve been there!) and lots of signatures on the walls from events and signings. Packed with incredible books! Happy Bookshop Day!

Such a powerhouse and an incredible person, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mandasue Heller, whom we had the honour of hosting for a Noir at the Bookshop and Bar in 2024 and I was pinching myself that I got to meet her. Born in Cheshire, moving to Manchester in the early 80s her novels are fantastic escapism, full of plenty of scandal and magnificent twists. She also had a career as a singer and actor as well and I can confirm, (of course she was!) she was so lovely when I met her. Thank you for your body of work, Mandasue. Sending so much love to your family and friends at this sad time. X
