FORLENGELSER: EXTRACTS

The earliest dated extract in this series comes from 2014. It introduces questions of space, contact and exchange that continue through Rannei Grenne’s practice and Forlengelser.

WHAT SPACE ARE WE CREATING TOGETHER?

14.12.2014

“When I dance I think about the space I am in. Thinking about what I see. Thinking about what shape I have. Thinking about the energy I am sending out. Thinking about what space I am creating. What shape I am creating.

Thinking about who I may be dancing with. Thinking about the space we may be creating together, the shapes we have, the shapes we create.

Feeling the energy that spreads around in my body, and further out from my body, and how it sticks to the room, to the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the person or people I may be dancing with.”

In Forlengelser, the choreography extends into the room, its materials, architecture and audience through a collaboration between Rannei Grenne and BUTCHER & CORREIA Studio.

First produced at BABEL, Trondheim, in December 2025, its presentation at PINK continues a partnership between the two artist-led organisations that began in 2024.

Forlengelser is part of our Presented by PINK programme.

Come along at any point and spend as long with the work as you choose.

FORLENGELSER: EXTRACTS

These extracts from Rannei Grenne’s working notes trace a practice sustained through repetition—not as a fixed routine, but as a way of questioning, changing and moving material into new contexts.

HOW CAN PRACTICE LEAD TO CHANGE?

07.03.2023

“Is it reproduction or is it an investigation of how you can take a material further into a new context/exploration/etc?”

21.02.2024

“How to create versus reproduce? How can practice lead to change and exploration rather than reproduction?

What do I bring into the next project? How does the previous project affect the next? How can I renew, to create change?

My previous movements are always with me, but how do I relate to them and how do I move forward?

What makes us make which choices, what influence do we have to make the choice, and what influence does the choice have?”

Emerging from a continuous dance practice of more than ten years, Forlengelser asks what it means to remain with a practice and allow it to change through contact with other bodies, materials and ways of working.

First produced at BABEL, Trondheim, in December 2025, its presentation at PINK continues a partnership between the two artist-led organisations that began in 2024.

FORLENGELSER: EXTRACTS

Across more than ten years of continuous practice, Rannei Grenne has returned to questions of movement, habit and choice. We are sharing extracts from her working notes ahead of the public presentation of Forlengelser at PINK.

ARE YOU CHOOSING, OR REPEATING?

07.03.2023

“Is it a conscious action or are you repeating yourself unconsciously?

Is it reproduction or is it an investigation of how you can take a material further into a new context/exploration/etc?

Is it a habit or a bad habit?”

21.02.2024

“Think of a movement—a first choice, then think of a new movement—a second choice. Do this movement, the second choice.

Is the second choice what I don’t want, or what I want a little less? Or maybe I want it more because I’ve spent more time coming to it? Is the second choice really the first choice, what I really want, which I don’t dare to do?”

Forlengelser is a work by Rannei Grenne and BUTCHER & CORREIA Studio.

FORLENGELSER: EXTRACTS

Drawn from more than ten years of Rannei Grenne’s working notes, these extracts trace a choreographic practice shaped through movement, attention, repetition and change.

WHAT SHAPE DO WE TAKE?

21.02.2024

“Find a place in the room, and find a shape with the body. The body always has a shape, but you can still make a choice about which one.

Feel how this shape feels in the body, notice which surfaces of the body are in contact with the floor. Feel what this contact with the ground is like.

Also feel if you are present in this room? Are you somewhere else? Are you present in the body and feel the ground? Notice what you see. Do you see the space around you?

New shape, feel the contact with the ground. Also notice which muscles you are using to hold this position.”

Forlengelser is a work at the intersection of choreography and exhibition by Rannei Grenne and BUTCHER & CORREIA Studio.

FORLENGELSER: EXTRACTS

Taken from Rannei Grenne’s working notes, these questions and instructions offer a glimpse into the practice from which Forlengelser has developed.

CAN OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY SEE?

21.02.2024

“Inside the nose
In the armpits
Tailbone
Behind the eyeball
Between the toes
Palate
Behind the ears
Tailbone
Between the fingers

What do you taste?
What do you smell?
What does the room taste?
What do you imagine the room tastes like?
What does the room smell like?
What does the room look like it smells?

Can other parts of the body than the eyes see? What do the fingertips see, what do the vertebrae see?”

In Forlengelser, Rannei’s choreographic practice meets costume, material, scenography, sound and visual gestures by BUTCHER & CORREIA Studio.

Meet studio holder Fiona Brehony, an artist and writer working across moving image, sound and performance with an interest in materiality and ways heritage binds bodies, cities and rivers. Fiona's work is grounded in thinking with water as a material that connects bodies, places, histories and species.

This summer, Fiona took up a 3-month residency with the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) in Oslo, working with the Just Urban team. The residency led to Water Symphony, a three-act audiovisual work centred on Sørenga, a peninsula built over what was once open fjord. Act 1. The Hum; Act 2. Bodies; Act 3. Green Space.

The Hum explores the low-frequency sound phenomenon reported across harbour cities, using it as a metaphor for the hidden undercurrents of a city. Fiona worked with hydrophones, contact mics and a Seaphone made by Discreet Archive (), alongside trumpet player and artist-researcher Theresa Coffey (). Water, brass, fabric and breath blur together, making it difficult to distinguish instruments from fjord.

Water Symphony continues Fiona's ongoing enquiry into the lives of rivers within urban spaces, following her poetic films The Flowering (2020), The Secret City (2021), and Material River (2026), made collaboratively with Many Hands Craft Collective and Simon Knighton, currently screening at festivals including . Fiona also runs Liquid History, an ongoing project into ways waterways connect us to place, running workshops this Autumn with MMU Centre for Placewriting and UoM Geography's MA. Fiona is also developing new Water Scores in collaboration with Ocean Alliance's whale song archives, exploring the ocean as a living archive of shared memory between human and non-human lives.

You can follow Fiona’s work at .brehony.

INTRODUCING: RANNEI GRENNE

Rannei Grenne is a dancer and choreographer whose work centres on movement, presence and the structures through which bodies act and relate.

She has performed in work by choreographers including Ingri Fiksdal and Bente Alice Westgård. She has also collaborated with choreographer and dancer Solveig Styve Holte on Flakkande røynd (2019) and Sixteen Dances (2023).

Rannei has toured across Norway, Europe and the USA as a dancer. She has presented her own work at Multiplié Dance Festival in Trondheim, Galleri Golsa in co-production with Black Box Theater in Oslo, Weld in Stockholm and CODA Oslo International Dance Festival, as well as touring through Dansenett Norge.

From 2019 to 2021, she received a three-year working grant for younger and newly established artists from the Norwegian Artists’ Grant.

Across her practice, Rannei emphasises how the how affects the what. How we move affects what surrounds us. She asks which movements, thoughts, words and actions we give space to, how we connect with our own and other people’s bodies, and how we can become more aware of the structures we move within.

This October, Rannei presents Forlengelser at PINK in collaboration with BUTCHER & CORREIA Studio.

Forlengelser was first produced at BABEL, Trondheim, in 2025. Its presentation at PINK continues an ongoing partnership between the two artist-led organisations that began in 2023.
