On 5–6 September 2026, the UK’s first prison-based tattoo convention returns behind bars for its fourth year and it’s set to be bigger than ever.

For one unforgettable weekend, more than 100 world-class tattoo artists will take over Shrewsbury Prison, working inside its original cells and across the historic prison wings.

Artists from the UK, Italy, Canada, America and beyond will bring the prison to life with incredible tattooing, live music, live graffiti, industry traders and entertainment throughout the weekend.

No silent disco beats a Silent Disco Behind Bars. 🎧🔒

Shrewsbury Prison held prisoners for more than 200 years. On Friday 18 September, its historic A Wing will be doing something very different.

Collect your glowing headphones and choose from three music channels:

🔴 Cell Block Anthems — singalong classics and party favourites from the 80s to today
🟢 New Release — current hits, modern pop, house, drum & bass and dance remixes
🔵 Old School — 90s and 00s pop, indie, dance and guilty pleasures

Switch channels whenever you like and dance beneath the prison landings, surrounded by the original cells of a real former prison.

From the Archives: The Face Above the Gate

Have you ever looked up while passing through Shrewsbury Prison’s historic gatehouse? 👀

Above the entrance is a marble bust of John Howard, one of Britain’s pioneering prison reformers. In early 1788, Howard visited Shrewsbury to inspect the plans for the new prison and meet Thomas Telford.

Although architect John Hiram Haycock’s design already reflected Howard’s ideas, Howard recommended several alterations and improvements. A revised plan was subsequently produced by Telford and approved by the prison commissioners.

Howard’s likeness still watches over the gatehouse today—a lasting reminder of the reforming principles that influenced the original Georgian gaol.

Early Release tickets for Shrewsbury Prison’s Silent Disco are available now!

On Friday 18 September, A Wing will be transformed for a night out behind bars. Collect your glowing headphones, step onto the prison dancefloor and switch between three music channels throughout the evening.

Sing along to Cell Block Anthems, discover current hits and dance remixes on New Release, or head back to the 90s and 00s with Old School. Your group doesn’t even have to agree on the playlist.

The bar will be open, the Governor will be keeping a close eye on proceedings and the original cells and landings of this real former prison will provide a setting unlike any ordinary night out.

Early Release tickets are £23.50! Friday 18 September, 8pm–11pm. Strictly 18+.
