As a not-for-profit organisation, the voluntary panel offers a unique opportunity for artists to contribute to a challenging exhibition calendar that may not fit into a solely commercial gallery. Entries are welcomed from both established and new artists, artists of any media, individuals and groups in the hope that the widest possible spectrum of works can be highlight

ed and shared with local audiences. Positioned in the centre of Shrewsbury, the gallery is an established part of Shropshire’s art scene. As well as organising activities at Gallery3, the SADAA art panel has successfully run the Shropshire Open Competition for many years and this year’s competition promises to be bigger and better than it has ever been before. The panel also runs a number of art visits each year.

What a day! 🏃

Started with a flying visit to collect some prints from the brilliant Richard Hammerton who’ll be part of the photography exhibition I’m organising 🙌

( IT’S THIS FRIDAY 5-7pm at the Gateway Gallery )

Hot-tailed it over to the gallery to prep and paint the walls 🎨

Home to collect some posters before wandering around town to distribute.

Took some snaps of Shrewsbury Arts Trail at the Shrewsbury Museum (don’t forget to vote for your People’s Choice Award so your favourite artist has a chance to win £500).

Bumped into these two stars at Shrewsbury Market Hall 🥰💛 Love you Annalin / Mitsuro Hikime jeweller The Makery & Karen Duffy abstract expressionist artist 🙏

Btw Annalin has a great workshop ‘Learn the Art of Making Mitsuro Hikime Jewellery’ this Saturday at English Bridge Studios (only 2 spaces left, send her a DM) 💍

Final stop, English Bridge Studios. Knackered! 😂

If you can make this Friday, or even share about the exhibition, I’d be very grateful! ‘PhotographyNow!’ Gateway Gallery, 5-7pm

AN 1860s
PHOTOGRAPH,
MADE TODAY

As part of the opening day of Photography Now!, Oliver Wilkins will be bringing his travelling Tintype Portrait Studio to Gateway Gallery.

Oliver Wilkins is an award winning documentary filmmaker and photographer who works with wet plate collodion, an early photographic process dating back almost 200 years.

From 2pm to 6pm on Friday 31 July, you can sit for a one-of-a-kind portrait made by hand directly onto a metal plate. Each photograph is entirely unique and cannot be reproduced in quite the same way again.

Sessions cost £50 and take around 30 minutes. Once complete, your tintype will be hand varnished and carefully posted to you.

You don’t need to have your portrait taken to come along. The exhibition will be open throughout the afternoon, and visitors are very welcome to watch Oliver work and see the process happening inside the gallery.

To reserve a session, email Oliver directly at: [email protected]. Walk ins will also be welcome where time allows.

From 5pm to 7pm, stay with us for Meet the Photographers, our main opening celebration. Oliver is also one of the 21 photographers exhibiting.

After the success of Print Now! last summer, and Collage Now! earlier this year, we’re excited to present the next exhibition in the series…

📷 PHOTOGRAPHY NOW!

Presented by Colour Now | Art Community and produced by David Yates , Photography Now! brings together photographers with a wide range of styles, experiences and interests. With no set theme, each exhibitor has selected up to four photographs to share, creating an exhibition that’s as varied as the people behind the camera.

We’re also delighted that the exhibition forms part of this year’s Shrewsbury Arts Trail , celebrating creativity across the town throughout the summer.

On Friday 31 July, Photography Now! opens at the Gateway Gallery

From 2pm, independent Emmy award winning British Filmmaker and photographer will be bringing his Tintype Portrait Studio to the gallery. Visitors will be able to watch the historic wet plate collodion process in action, or book a one-of-a-kind portrait for £50. Each tintype is hand varnished before being carefully posted to you, making for a truly unique keepsake.

Bookings can be made with Oliver at: [email protected] , with a limited number of walk in sessions also available 😊

Then, from 5pm to 7pm, join us for Meet the Photographers. Many of the exhibiting photographers will be at the gallery, making it the perfect opportunity to chat about their work, enjoy a drink, and celebrate the opening of Photography Now! together 🙌
