What a beautiful blue sky today.

The volunteers are on site today and there’s been a lot of interest in our new addition, which arrived Monday…

Come and say hello and join us for a hot or cold drink for £1.50. We’ve still got ice creams at £1.50 too…

See you soon.

Well, it’s not every day that you’re gifted something as significant as a 40mm Bofors Anti Aircraft Gun.

With HUGE thanks to the Royal Armouries Fort Nelson, hantsculture (Hampshire Cultural Trust) for believing us and trusting us to give this collection piece a new lease of life.

A MASSIVE thank you also to Westbourne Motors for supporting us and moving the piece. Simon, thank you for your incredible skills in loading and unloading - we genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.

This has been a long time in the planning but today went like clockwork.

With all the stress of setting up the event and all our volunteers being busy, we are gutted we didn’t get chance to get our feedback forms circulated on Saturday for our Heritage Open Days event :(

We also didn’t distribute the HODs evaluation cards either, so if you could take a couple of minutes to complete their below survey, we would be incredibly grateful.

https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/whats-on/survey.html

Evaluation is really important for HODs and vitally important to us too, as it will help shape the future events at Shoreham Fort.

Thank you in advance.

And the last of us are now home but unloading can wait until tomorrow, as we’re a wee but tired…

Wow!

What an amazing day 😱

Thank you so much to all the brilliant groups and individuals that displayed with us, all the military vehicles, all those who made cakes and those who sold cakes, those who organised and ran the tombola, all who donated to the tombola, those who kept the troops and crowds lubricated all day (apologies from me to some if I used the wrong urn and your cuppa was not as hot as it should have been - tiredness had set in 😔), those who beavered away to ensure the wonderful new shop was stocked with authentic items, those who brought the fresh veg and produce to sell in our shop, those who donated artefacts and thanks to the friends who travelled from afar to be with us and show their support.

Lastly, massive thanks must go to all the brilliant volunteers who have broken their backs to put this year’s Heritage Open Days event on for everyone. Months of planning and so much work in the background is needed to run an event this size, but the smiling faces made it all worthwhile.

Next year’s event should be 11th September so do put the date in your diaries. For now we’re going to put our feet up and have a well earned rest - well, until Thursday when we have a private tour in the morning and a Tin Hut Talk in the evening…

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend everyone and thank you all for you support.

20:45 and the last of us have just left site after today’s set up, apart from those sleeping there.

Thank you to all those who joined us for our free tour this evening, it was a pleasure to meet you and share Shoreham Fort’s past, present and future.

Thank you also to all the volunteers for their time and effort today.

One last push first thing in the morning and we’ll be ready to open the gates at 11:00 to welcome you to this year’s Heritage Open Days event.

See you in the morning 🙂

Two more sleeps…

One of our volunteers has been beavering away at organising a tombola and another has been rallying the troops for our cake stall, which is wonderful as it means I haven’t had to worry.

Below are a couple of photos of tombola prizes that I know about and also a sneaky peek of how another volunteer and business has supported us…

DeliBean, thank you so much for voucher 🥰

Mel Humphreys, thank you for the cake prize 🥰

Sully's, thank you to you and Dad for your support of our cake stall… 🥰

Thank you also to all the amazing guys and gals who have been baking, creating and donating for us.

Thank you also to the two amazing individuals that I met on Tuesday, who were so incredibly generous it left me a little lost for words - shocking, I know!!!

It’s times like these that makes all the hard work and stress worthwhile, as people come together to support us.

Lastly I just want to say thank you to all our volunteers who have been helping in the background and to those who will be with us tomorrow and Saturday to make this event happen.

Without all the above mentioned people this event wouldn’t be possible, thank you just doesn’t seem enough…

Tomorrow is set up day and Saturday it is all systems go.

See you there between 11:00~16:00 for this year’s Heritage Open Days event.
