We are thrilled to share the heartfelt story behind our latest postbox topper, which holds a special significance for our community. Recently, we had the privilege of collaborating with Gary and Sharon from Shoreham Fort, who reached out to us for assistance in transcribing a collection of wartime diaries they had acquired. These poignant diaries belonged to the Parsons family, who resided in Queens Place, Shoreham.
As we immersed ourselves in the personal thoughts and experiences captured within these diaries, we felt a profound connection to the Parsons family. It was an honour to read their reflections during such a tumultuous time in history, and it inspired us deeply. In light of this meaningful experience, we have decided to dedicate our latest postbox topper to Gunner Wilfred Charles Henry Parsons, who tragically lost his life on 4th November, 1944, at the young age of 31.
Wilfred left behind a loving wife, Edna, and their young daughter, Rosemary, who was just two years old at the time of his passing. His name is commemorated on the memorial to the fallen at St. Mary de Haura Church, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many.
As we unveil this postbox topper, we invite everyone to take a moment to reflect on the bravery and dedication of all the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. Let us never forget their sacrifices and the lasting impact they have had on our lives today.
This beautiful topper was made and assembled during our Crafternoon Tuesdays, using many donations of poppies, symbolising remembrance and respect. We hope it serves as a lasting tribute to Wilfred and all those who have served. Thank you for joining us in honouring their legacy.
