We are delighted to host Author and DHC Chipmunk Pilot, Ben Griffiths and his new book “Chipmunk at 80-vol 1” for a signing event at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum.

We hope to have a series of special guests on the day (TBC)

We are very excited to announce that we are holding our first Temporary Exhibition at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum

Introducing “Gems From The Collection” a closer look at a selection of items from our archive that do not come out often.

This will be running daily from Saturday 24th October - Sunday 1st November (closed Monday) from 11am-12pm and 2pm-3pm

Entry is included in the admission price, however a suggested donation of £5 would be appreciated.

🎃 HALLOWEEN HALF TERM AT THE DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT MUSEUM 🎃

Saturday 24th October - Sunday 1st November

Plenty for younger visitors during Halloween Half term at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum

As well as access to all three hangars, younger visitors can enjoy crafting and fun during the week Saturday 24th October and Sunday 1st November (closed on Monday)

On the craft/activities table visitors can make their own Bouncy-Bat Mobile
and Fridge Magnets. There’s also Halloween colouring pages, stickers, puzzle table and the science ball.

Bag-a-Bat Launcher and other wooden games will be available. Bat Quiz and Wordsearch will operate indoors in the Walter Goldsmith and Geoffrey de Havilland hangars with lucky-dip prizes.

So come and join us Tue - Sun 10:30 - 17:00 (last entry at 16:00)

The de Havilland Aircraft Museum held its fifth Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning last Friday. We are pleased to announce that our final total raised for Macmillan was £805.27

This exceeded the £750 raised last year. Organiser and museum volunteer Lesley Kazer commented

‘I am delighted with this year’s total. It’s a great social event too. Most of our 200 volunteers tend to work on a given day each week, so it is an excellent opportunity for them and their partners to meet and mingle. Furthermore, as the café is open to the public, we had significant support from casual visitors’.

Macmillan Cancer Support has raised over £310 million through its coffee mornings which began in 1990.

We as a museum want to show our support with the rebuild of the DH.88 Comet Racer “Grosvenor House” at the Shuttleworth Collection.

We are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement in principle with our insurers that will allow the detailed assessment and repair of the DH.88 Comet Racer, G-ACSS, to begin.

Happy 106th Birthday to the de Havilland Aircraft Company 🥳

25th September 1920 (106 yrs ago)
Geoffrey de Havilland forms the de Havilland Aircraft Company Ltd with himself as Director and Chief Designer with some finance from George Holt Thomas, who previously owned Airco.

Key men from Airco who also join as directors are C C Walker (Chief Engineer), Francis T Hearle (General Manager), W E Nixon (Secretary) and F E N St Barbe (Sales Manager), with A E Hagg joining as Assistant Director. They rent a large field at Stag Lane, Edgware

From that point on, de Havilland went on to build some of the most well known aircraft in aviation and helped develop aviation on to what we know today.

We at the museum are very proud of what we do and how we play our part in keeping the legacy of de Havilland alive.

We at the De Havilland Aircraft Museum will be hosting our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September from 11:00am in our Comet Cafe.

Entry to the Aeroshop and Comet Cafe is free, so please come along and show your support!

Volunteering role now available: Comet Café

Are you people-orientated and like interacting with visitors to enhance their museum visit with a nice hot or cold drink and a bite to eat? Join the Comet Café Crew and help us make the most of our wonderful new restaurant!

What will you be doing?
You will carry out the day-to-day operation of the Comet Café by serving customers and keeping front of house clean and tidy, preparing light snacks, and serving hot and cold drinks. Cash handling and till operating is also a part of this role.

What’s required for this role?
An interest in catering and a commitment to good customer service. Independent working and confidently interacting with our visitors, especially during busy times, are important elements of this role.

When do we need you?
Whole or part days (AM 10.30 – 13.30 or PM 13.30 – 17.00)
• Thursday
• Saturday
• Sunday

Training and support
Full training will be given alongside ongoing support from staff and other volunteers.
