Cherry’s Vernon-Harcourt’s textile practice is rooted in the landscapes of East Anglia. Working from sketches, photographs and collected objects, she distils the land and seascapes into refined, pared-back compositions.

Using linen and cotton as her canvas, Cherry builds layers of colour and texture with Procion dyes, acrylic paint, earth pigments and a range of experimental techniques.

Her work has been exhibited extensively across the UK, Europe, USA and Japan, with two quilts held in the Quilters’ Guild Collection.

Interview series continues..Roxanne Kindersley on the National Gallery!

This interview with Roxanne Kindersley highlights another major institutional building in Britain the Cardozo workshop has taken on. It shows just how darn brave this group of craftsmen really are. Grit!

Stone exhibition will be extended at Wightman Gallery and Compass Courtyard after the awe inspiring talk with Lida Cardozo. All works for sale - please enquire at [email protected]

We are privileged to exhibit letter cut wall pieces by the workshop and each one has been carefully selected by the workshop to demonstrate the breath of carving within this traditional craft.

How do words influence your daily life? Take a moment to consider, and you'll notice letters are everywhere, fundamental to every aspect of existence and interaction. They facilitate language and dominate our writing, we hope. What about penning a handwritten note to a friend this week? When did you last do that? The encounter with letters in stone reveals the transience of self and the fragility of human presence. The impressions we leave can be written in stone, letter by letter, chiseled with care and precision. I the book 📕 'Words Made Stone', a book featuring letters written between Lida Cardozo, a letter cutter, and Professor Marcus Waithe during the pandemic, paints a vivid picture of humanity's connection to this timeless craft and its impact on our daily experiences. 📕 Marcus Waithe & Lida Cardozo

Central Sculpture courtyard - Alphabet Standing Stone by Vincent Kindersley

Stone exhibition continues at Wightman Gallery

23/04/2026

Inspired by her late husbands legacy David Kindersley, Lida speaks about the point at which letter cutting and sculpture meet - where the inside and outside of existence are not opposites, but partners. Each carved line holds both presence and absence, shaping space as much as it shapes matter.

It’s in this meeting point- between what is seen and what is felt - that expression lives.

Annabel Wightman will be in conversation with Lida Cardozo this Saturday at 11am. To book your free tickets, go to event brite link below or in bio.
