Ellenroad Engine House, Steam Museum Home of the World’s Largest Working Steam Driven Mill Engine. Home to one of only three schedule historic monuments in Rochdale.

We house the world's largest working steam mill engines - Victoria and Alexandra. The Engine House is open and steaming on the first Sunday of every month. Situated just off junction 21 M62 we are easy to find just look out for our 220ft chimney!

Entry Cost- £2.50 per person with accompanying children under 16 FREE

**Please be aware the engines will not be in steam**

The majority of the museum will be open to view the exhibits static but the main engine room will remain closed as work continues in that area.

Our Classic Car Shows are very popular and are a great day out for all the family!

The museum cafe and souvenir shop will be open and our car park will be full of classic cars for you to look round and photograph!

Please remember we are OPEN this coming Sunday 6th April 11am-4pm, but we won’t be operating the main engine, nor will the main engine room be open. We will be operating the Whitelees Beam Engine and Irene Engine as well as hosting a display of Land Rovers in the car park and an exhibition by the Rochdale Society of Model and Experimental Engineers at a reduced admission fee of £5.00. Ellenroad Steam Museum- Important Update- 19th March 2025

At the last steaming we observed a building issue in the main Engine House and closed that engine room to visitors. A specialist consultant has inspected the building and advised that as a precaution we should keep the big engine room closed until surveyed and any remediation found necessary completed.

Our planned steaming on Sunday 6th April 2025 will go ahead and we will operate The Whitelees Beam Engine and ‘Irene’ engine regularly throughout the day.

The boiler house, beam engine room, sprinkler pump room, 1910 workshop, cafe and souvenir shop will remain open.

We also have two special exhibits; Landrovers outside and the Rochdale Society of Model & Experimental Engineers inside.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to operate the Big Engine, the main engine room and the generator room will remain closed throughout the day. This means we will reduce entry to the site to £5.00 for the April steaming.

We will ensure our social media channel and website are kept up to date with the latest news from Ellenroad.
