Mad about birds?

Our latest exhibition Bird Photographer of the Year is showing in Gallery Two. This stunning exhibition showcases the work of photographers capturing the beauty and diversity of birdlife.

Find out more about the amazing birds in our collection with Patricia Francis, our Natural History Curator. Get up close to a Little Egret and Hadad Ibis, the loudest bird in Africa. Meet in Gallery 2 on Wed 18 June, 2pm.

We are seeking an artist or creative practitioner interested in working with Early Years audiences who wants to make a statement about Oldham's diverse habitats whether that's through film, animation, photography, sound, sculpture or visual art. 🌳

This new piece will be permanently installed in 's new Our Beautiful Oldham gallery due to open in Summer 2026.

This opportunity is open to North-West based artists and creative practitioners.

Call to all creatives.

Gallery Oldham invites applicants from North-West based creative practitioners and artists for an exciting new commission supported by Art Fund.

With a budget of £10,000, this is a rare opportunity to create a new piece which will reflect and celebrate Oldham's diverse habitats for the Our Beautiful Oldham gallery currently in development.

Working with Early Years families and exhibition designers, could you create something fun and interactive for this new gallery space?

We're back with a bang this month!

Coming this week on Saturday 7th June we have our amazing Super Saturday! Our day is jam packed full of activities and events for all ages. Starting with our little and messiest visitors at GO Explorers in the morning right through to family craft sessions inspired by Oldham Libraries Small Cinema sessions!

This month their Family Friendly film is Disney's Robin Hood and each child who attends receives a free goodie bag of treats. Tickets are just £3.50 each and is bookable via Eventbrite (link in the comments)

10.30 - 12noon: GO Explorers
Messy and sensory play for 2 - 4 year olds.
£4 per toddler, drop in, pay on the door

12noon - 1.30pm: Free family crafts
Simple craft and colouring activities inspired by the Small Cinema screening of Robin Hood. Free and drop in, you can join in the crafts even if you're not attending the Small Cinema.

1.30 - 3.30pm: Art Club [SOLD OUT]
Our monthly creative arts sessions for 10 - 16 year olds, this month artist Caroline Coates will be exploring Jesmonite creations with the group. Free and bookable via Eventbrite.

2pm: The Small Cinema: Disney's Robin Hood (U)
Robin Hood and his band of merry men fight against the injustices of the Sheriff of Nottingham. This animated classic is perfect for all ages! £3.50 per person, bookable via Eventbrite.

Gallery Oldham are working in partnership with Early Years families to commission a North-West based creative practitioner/artist to create a piece for our new gallery Our Beautiful Oldham, focusing on the natural world and Oldham’s diverse habitats. This project is supported by Art Fund.

⭐️Brief⭐️
The fee is £10,000 including materials and the successful applicant will work with Early Years audience to co-produce the commission.

There are still tickets for Wednesday's Classification, Adaptation & Food Chains (KS2) session for home schooled children so book your place today!

Tickets for the next session of our home ed programme are now for sale! (The Eventbrite link is in the comments section)

Join us for Classification, Adaptation & Food Chains in our Education Suite on Wednesday 21 May between 10:30 – 12:30. This session is for Key Stage 2 children aged 7 to 11 years old.

Our animal expert, Alex, will use Gallery Oldham’s taxidermy animal collection to help home educated children learn how to classify animals, discover how animals are adapted to their habitats and find out about food chains.

Our friends at Oldham Library have some amazing shows coming up!

Live@TheLibrary: How to Win at Darts (In Manchester), Tuesday 24 June 7pm, £6 per ticket, Oldham Library, Suitable for ages 14+.

It's always been the only food bank in town with its own darts team. But the darts team is about to go under, and the food bank won't be far behind. A new comedy about resistance, revolution, and the 9-dart finish.
