This week in Silverdale, we have been exploring and learning all about the world around us 🌍

The children especially loved moving their bodies to music from different countries and cultures around the world.

We explored a world map to discover where different animals live, created some fantastic world-themed pictures using paint and conkers, and made some lovely postcards too.

Our favourite activity this week has been using the special blocks featuring pictures of our town and the children in nursery. The children were so excited to find and show their friends their very own picture block!

This week in Ribblesdale, we have enjoyed sharing the lovely stories Who Lives Here?, Where Do I Live?, Town Mouse and Country Mouse and Katie in London. This has allowed us to discuss our own homes and the beautiful countryside we live in, before comparing it to city life. The children have also learned about some of the famous landmarks in London.

It was lovely to share the children’s photos of their homes and places they have visited near Richmond, and we even managed to see photos of children visiting London too.

In Maths, we have moved on to exploring 3D shapes. The children have been learning to recognise and name different 3D shapes, describe their properties and identify them in the world around us.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have been reading beanstalk stories including Jack & the Beanstalk, Jim & the beanstalk and Jack & the Jelly beanstalk. We story-mapped the original story before having a go at writing about it. We were so impressed with the children’s writing. They wrote fabulous stories!

In maths we have been looking at addition. We have done this using First, then and now stories. We looked at how many dinosaurs we had first, how many had come along to play and how many we had now.

This week in Silverdale, we have been talking about why it is important to look after our oceans and continuing to explore art.

We have enjoyed reading The Snail and the Whale, The Clumsy Crab, Elmer, and Wow! Said the Owl.

The children have loved getting creative by making wiggly jellyfish and colourful Elmer pictures.

We also explored different sea creatures and used our bodies to move like crabs during our activities.

This week in Ribblesdale, we have been exploring a range of art-focused books, including The Day the Crayons Quit, I Am an Artist, Nature is an Artist and How to Paint a Rainbow. These stories have inspired lots of creativity across the classroom.

The children have been busy creating their own self-portraits, using natural materials to make artwork, and have produced some beautiful rainbow creations.

During our Forest School session, they especially enjoyed making wax rubbings from tree bark, discovering different textures in nature.

In maths, we have started learning about 2D shapes and their properties, and the children are beginning to recognise and describe a variety of shapes with growing confidence.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have continued our Literacy Text ‘Lost and Found’. We have been learning about penguins and other Antarctic animals. We have been drawing penguins and writing our favourite facts.
This week in RE we welcomed the lovely Rev Kathleen. She taught us about Baptism and welcoming babies into the Methodist Church. We enjoyed hearing about baptism ceremonies and had our own ceremony where we baptised Sophie the teddy bear.
In maths we have been continuing our work on numbers beyond 20 and working on counting on from a number. We have been working on putting the number in our head and counting on using a number line.

This week in Silverdale, we’ve been exploring all things art. 🎨

We enjoyed reading ‘I Am an Artist’, ‘The Colour Monster’, ‘Colour and Me’, and ‘The Crayons’ Book of Colours’.

We also developed our fine motor skills through activities such as threading, using gator grabbers, and making marks in the sand.

Inspired by I Am an Artist, we created our own outdoor artwork using natural materials like shells, sand, sticks, and leaves.

We’ve made the most of the lovely sunshine and have really enjoyed spending most of our time outside. ☀️

This week in Ribblesdale, we have been enjoying a range of lovely stories including Mix It Up!, Elmer, Luna Loves Art and Beautiful Oops!.

As part of our art focus, we explored colour mixing and learned about the work of famous artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Wassily Kandinsky and Vincent Van Gogh. This inspired us to create our own artwork, experimenting with colours, patterns, and different techniques.

We especially loved our Forest School session, where we were inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s natural art. The children created some amazing pieces using materials found in nature, showing great creativity and imagination.

In maths, we have been learning about “more than” and “fewer than,” developing our understanding through practical activities and discussions.

🐧 In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have started our new Literacy text ‘Lost and Found’. 🐧
We found a lost penguin in our classroom, we wondered how it got there and discussed what we could do to help. The children wrote letters to the little boy to advise him how to help the penguin get home.

In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of numbers from 11 to 20. We have looked at pictorial representations and matched them to the numerals.

In Art we have been looking at the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. We have talked about his famous artwork including Starry Night 🌌 and Sunflowers. 🌻 Looking at his paintings of flowers inspired us to try painting our own still life pictures. We have started with painting tulips. 🌷

🌸Silverdale’s Learning Journey this week🌸

This week the children have been very busy exploring lots of fun learning experiences. We enjoyed the story Grow It! , which inspired us to talk about growing and planting. The children had a go at planting flowers and beans, learning how we care for them and what they need to grow.

We made the most of the sunshine, spending time outdoors where the children explored building with blocks, developing their creativity and teamwork skills. They also had great fun in the sandpit and with water play, filling, pouring, and experimenting with different containers.

It’s been a lovely week of hands-on learning, and we’re so proud of how engaged and curious the children have been!

This week in Ribblesdale, we enjoyed sharing the stories Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack and the Jellybean and The Amazing Life Cycle of Plants. We have also learned about special days like Earth Day. The children were very excited to make their own flower seed bombs and we celebrated St George’s Day.

At Forest School, the children were keen to explore! They used iPads to take photos of the plants they found and did a wonderful job taking turns and working together. With magnifying glasses, they looked closely at different plants, noticing leaves, stems, and interesting textures. After their exploring, the children drew pictures of their favourite plants.

In Maths, we have been learning about where things are. The children have been using words like on, under, in, out, in front of, and behind to describe the position of objects.

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Reception!

Our theme has been pirates, and the children have thoroughly enjoyed getting into character. We’ve been focusing on writing, creating our own guides on how to be a successful pirate. The children came up with brilliant ideas, including what pirates should wear, how they should dress, and the important skills and activities they need to master—there are certainly some adventurous pirates in the making!

In Maths, we have been practicing counting up to 20 and are beginning to understand the correct order of numbers. We have also started exploring the basics of place value, helping the children build a strong foundation in their number knowledge.

In Understanding the World, we have continued our planting topic. The children have been learning about what seeds need to grow and have loved taking part in caring for our class plants. We are all very excited and will be watching closely over the next couple of weeks to see how our “pet seeds” change and grow!🌱🪴🪻

Welcome back Silverdale!

This week, our 2-year-olds have been busy little explorers 🌱

We’ve been spending lots of time outdoors, building our core strength through active play and movement. The children have also been investigating seeds and learning all about plants and how they grow.

Inside, we’ve been enjoying stories linked to our topic, helping to build understanding and spark curiosity. The children have been practising their counting through filling and emptying activities, and beginning to identify different parts of a plant.

We have played along side our adults and listened to new language as they narrate what is happening during our self led investigations… we will build on using our new words next week!

Welcome back to all our lovely families!

This week in Ribblesdale, we’ve been enjoying a selection of wonderful stories including Jack and the Beanstalk, Jasper’s Beanstalk, Jim and the Beanstalk, and The Tiny Seed. We’ve linked these stories to our Science learning by exploring seeds and beans.

The children were very excited to plant and grow their own “beanstalks” and have been learning all about what plants need to grow and survive. They are also thoroughly enjoying our new garden centre, which is set up in our role play area.

In Maths, we have started learning about sequencing. The children have been introduced to new vocabulary related to time, including first, next, then, after that, and finally.

In Swaledale and Malhamdale we have been enjoying a week about pirates with our new test ‘The Night Pirates’. During pirate school we have enjoyed listening to our captain’s instruction and learning about all the tasks they have to do. We have written letters to the Night Pirates in order to join their crew telling them all the reasons we should be allowed to join their crew.

In maths we have begun looking at numbers to 20. We enjoyed looking at the patterns of numbers 11-20 and enjoyed exploring with the large Numicon pieces. We impressed Mrs Stevenson with our fantastic knowledge of Numberbonds to 5.

In science we have been looking at spring and how plants grow. We started by reading the Eric Carle book ‘Tiny Seed’ and talking about all the things that plays need to grow.
