To fight with Rome she needed an army of madmen.

Across the channel Queen Boudica appeals to King Badvoc, fierce leader of the Belgic tribes, a powerful confederation inhabiting northern Gaul (modern Belgium and northern France) for the last three hundred years. They shared no love for one another, but Boudica knew their hatred for the Romans ran deeper still.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Renowned in the ancient world for their fierce warrior culture the Belgics ultimately gave their name to the Roman province of Gallia Belgica and the modern nation of Belgium.

But in 61AD, will Badvoc pledge loyalty to She, who claims herself leader of the Britons? Can Boudica tame this beast and turn his pride, ferocity, and hatred of the Romans towards victory, or will his hubris bring them all to ruin?

๐Ÿ”ฅ Carl Perkins appears as King Badvoc in Peterborough Mask Theatre Companyโ€™s epic outdoor production of Boudica by Tristan Bernays.

It was an absolute pleasure having a group from Caterpillar with us yesterday to do some volunteering.

In preparation for our Summer Solstice event tomorrow, the task was to put up a marquee. Problem solving here and there plus plenty of team work, we succeeded ๐Ÿ‘

It was brilliant to hear that they had a great time and that they would recommend us for corporate volunteer days.

Celebrate Summer Solstice at Flag Fen in Peterborough

18/06/2026

To rise against Rome, she looked beyond swords and shields for strength.

She called upon Andraste, goddess of victory, prophecy and war, seeking a sign that her people would triumph against the might of the Roman Empire.

What we know of Andraste comes primarily from the writings of the Roman historian Cassius Dio who wrote over 80 volumes of history on ancient Rome. From his works on the revolt of Boudica: "and Buduica, raising her hand toward heaven, said: "I thank thee, Andraste, and call upon thee as woman speaking to woman...and pray thee for victory"

In contemporary neopagan and Celtic polytheist practices, Andraste is honored as a fierce protector of freedom, a symbol of female leadership, and an empowering figure for overcoming insurmountable challenges.

It is clear then, that the need for such symbolism was as important two thousand years ago as it is today.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Emma Dear appears as the Goddess Andraste in Peterborough Mask Theatre Companyโ€™s epic outdoor production of Boudica.
