Did you know?

The Salvation Army once faced opposition from The Skeleton Army.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฟ

Battered and bruised, several of the earliest Salvationists experienced war from their adversaries known as The Skeleton Army.

This group would throw rotten eggs, punch and kick the Salvationists as they would march in the open air to sing songs and preach about their Savior.

The Skeleton Army made parody of The Salvation Army, wearing mock uniforms of their own, carrying their own flag โ€” which had a skull and cross bones on it โ€” and singing salty songs.

But among those Skeletons was a young man named Charles Jeffries, who would encounter Godโ€™s grace and whose life would never be the same.

Happy Earth Day! ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’šโ™ป๏ธ

22nd April marks Earth Day, a date that reminds us that the choices we make can have a lasting impact on our world. Donating unused items or shopping second-hand can be an easy and meaningful way to reduce waste.

Through its charity shops and donation centres, The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom - and throughout the world - gives people the opportunity to do just that.

Did you know that the iconic Salvation Army thrift store was but one pillar in William Boothโ€™s plan to reform society, as laid out in his book, โ€œIn Darkest England and The Way Out?โ€

Boothโ€™s vision of a โ€œHousehold Salvage Brigadeโ€ that would collect unwanted materials from peopleโ€™s homes and sell them at a reduce price to help the poor, evolved into the modern day thrift store. ๐Ÿ›’
