Our second day of Art Ludham!
What a weekend it’s been so far.!
Over 300 visitors and lots of sales keeping us very busy indeed.
We have two fabulous artists, Julie Hodgson and Eleanor Alison creating artwork in the church now. Pop in if you’re nearby and see us.
We have had lots of lovely dogs visiting, they are most welcome in the exhibition.
Tomorrow is the last day. 10-5.

Art Ludham, St. Catherine’s Church 30th August-1st September 10-5

Last but by no means least we have Tony Colledge who completes the trio of founder members.
Tony is an integral part of the team. He does a fair bit of admin, creates and installs the road signage and is generally there to help throughout and keep everything on track. He is also far better than me at neatly wrapping sold paintings 😀

His popular art photography is created without filters or AI.
Starting with his own photographs he uses only the colour wheel and selective colour adjustments to experiment with both complementary and contrasting colours until he has achieved the optimal result. The vibrant images created, he believes, generate an interesting blend between photography and art.

Amanda Springall-Rogers started painting in 2018 and found that she loved working with the versatile medium of pastels.
She also enjoys using charcoal and experiments with other mediums and new techniques from her home-based studio.

Due to disability, she has an unorthodox way of painting, using two hands to hold a pencil, pastel, paint brush or other painting tools and mediums.

She shows exceptional draftsmanship and attention to detail. The subtle colour pallette and timeless subject matter result in artworks which have a very wide appeal - sitting happily in many private collections.

A member of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle, she exhibits her predominantly nature based pastel studies across East Anglia.

Amanda is a greatly appreciated and valued founder member of Swallowtail Fine Artists.
She does a huge amount of work behind the scenes, organising print runs, guest artists’ paperwork , rotas and SO much more.

As one of the three founder members of Swallowtail Fine Artists, I’m looking forward to putting on our fourth Art Ludham exhibition at St Catherine’s Church. (30th August-1st September 10-5)

The idea was born when we were looking for local exhibition spaces and has now grown to become a major feature of our diaries, for us, our guest artists and our keen customers as well.

I mainly use acrylic to create my nature based paintings - I like the vibrancy and richness of the colours that modern acrylic paint produces.

Unlike animal portraiture, I much prefer to have the natural subjects within a setting.

I am outdoors a lot so I’m often trying to capture my fleeting wildlife encounters, such as The Short Eared Owl appearing at St Benet’s….and we really do have a Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Night (it gets confused by the nearby streetlight!).

I strive to create a bit of atmosphere, being particularly drawn to moody, nocturnal scenes ….but I also like a splash or two of vivid colour.

I run a range of art workshops from my studio in Acle.

Margaret Springall is a Broads-based artist who works in various mediums but has a particular passion for oils.

Since retirement afforded her more time, she has enjoyed exploring a range of painting styles and techniques.

Margaret runs a weekly art group in Horning tutored by Cliff Knight and exhibits at local art exhibitions throughout the year.

She is also a fundamental supporting member of Swallowtail Fine Artists and Art Ludham. Margaret is always there to help, create delicious canapés or cakes, talk to customers, etc. We appreciate her greatly.

We are delighted to welcome acclaimed pastel artist John Patchett, IEA EAGMA, for the first time to Art Ludham.
John has had over 50 solo shows nationally and internationally.
He paints with pastels as he would in oils or acrylic- building and overlaying colours to create the rich, vibrancy we associate with his work.

We are happy to have the art of Reg Siger at Ludham again this year.

Reg uses a brush and waterproof ink to make his detailed and accurate drawings before tinting them with acrylic paint.

His subjects are sourced from a range of historic and scenic East Anglian architecture.

The use of acrylic paint, instead of the more usual watercolour, gives a richness and vibrancy which beautifully compliments the atmospheric, sometimes nostalgic, monochrome dimension of the drawings.

Fehmi Gokes will be with us again for Art Ludham 2026.
His gorgeous mosaic artworks were a real hit last year with quite a number finding new homes.
Fehmi’s work is intricately and skilfully designed with an unusual finish- the grout contours actually become part of the design.
With a range of work for sale from small to large, these will make beautiful gifts or a stunning centrepiece for your own wall.

Eleanor Alison is today’s featured guest artist.

A seasoned and prolific Plein air painter,
Eleanor often uses pen and watercolour wash to capture energetic city scenes, as well as traditional oil landscapes and animals.

Another string to her bow is her unique style of scratchboards.
These are dark coloured backgrounds that are delicately scratched away to reveal the white layer underneath. Eleanor sometimes colours these areas.

The results are original and very striking- such as the hauntingly beautiful example below.

Please note, we regret there is no Private View this year due to circumstances beyond our control….but we are being treated to CREAM TEAS instead! Homemade scones, cream and jam to complement a nice cup of tea-available to buy throughout the exhibition.
