Free Half Term Fun at Minster Gatehouse Museum !

Minster on Sea Parish Council are delighted to have funded, for the second year running, the Abbey Gatehouse to open FREE OF CHARGE on:
Wednesday 28 October 2026
10am-2pm

Come along and discover more about Sheppey’s fascinating history, have a go at some spooky chalk art, enjoy a free drink and biscuit and see if you can count all the witches!

A brilliant, fun and free day out for the whole family this half term, hurrah!

The spooky season is officially upon us! And at the ‘Monster Gatehouse Museum’ our annual tradition of the witch takeover will be happening around mid-October. To celebrate this Minster on Sea Parish Council has sponsored an open day! Yes that’s right free entry on 28th October 10-2pm! What a spook-tacular opportunity!

Not only can you get a good vantage point to see what’s going on with the Richard Montgomery masts but we also have a number of articles and reading material in the museum for visitors to view. As you can see it’s been an ongoing conversation point for many years now!

🚨 As the kids are now back at school our opening times are changing to Wednesday and Saturday 2-4:30pm from next week! 🚨

Did you also know that our rooftop telescope even has a great view of the Monty masts? With work to remove the masts beginning shortly now’s your chance to see them in the Sheppey landscape one final time! We’ll be open today 2-4:30 😊

Stone, stories and centuries of island history... Minster Abbey Gatehouse is one of the Isle of Sheppey’s most striking links to its medieval past.

Minster Abbey’s story reaches back to 664, when Queen Sexburga founded a religious house here. The abbey was rebuilt in the 12th century before being dissolved in 1536, and the historic gatehouse remains part of this remarkable heritage setting.
